Honored & so incredibly humbled to have been officially installed as President of the +Teachers College, Columbia University Alumni Association by the Alumni Council tonight. So deeply appreciate the confidence that has been placed in me and looking forward to continuing the Council's work, with our amazing Alumni Relations team, on our mission of (re)connecting alumni to the College!

"Captain's Log, April 5, 2063. The voyage of the Phoenix was a success – again. The alien ship detected the warp signature, and is on its way to rendezvous with history." Happy First Contact Day!!! See you in 48 years, Vulcans!

My @DearWorld was inspired by @TheDanRather as he ended his final broadcast on the CBS Evening News in March 2005 with one word. "Courage." I've never forgotten that lesson and his message. #BeCourageous To quote: "To our soldiers in dangerous places. To those who have endured the tsunami and to all who have suffered natural disasters, and who must find the will to rebuild. To the oppressed and to those whose lot it is to struggle, in financial hardship or in failing health. To my fellow journalists in places where reporting the truth means risking all. And to each of you: 'Courage.'"

One more comment- - This recording is proof of what I used to do, but have failed at these last few years: Keep your eyes open and watching all (stress "ALL") around you plus keep camera at hand ready to shoot within a second's observation or notice. Lastly, keep looking for opportunity and shoot it all.  You never know when an offhand shot will later become of personal or greater value.

Introduction
I currently serve as Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students at SUNY Downstate Medical Center after having served as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and in several positions, including Interim Dean of Students and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at Purchase College, SUNY. A member of the Purchase College Class of 1996, I serve as President of the Purchase College Alumni Association. I received my Doctor of Education degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2011. I received a Master of Education (1998) and Master of Arts (1997) in Higher Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University and my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (1996) from Purchase. As an undergraduate, I had two significant internships. In 1994 I interned with CBS News - CBS This Morning (now the CBS Early Show) and was one of the first two interns to substitute for the evening Desk Assistant for CBS This Morning. I also interned (in 1993) for the promotions and news departments at WPLJ-FM. I am the first intern ever to be a part of "Scott and Todd in the Morning" where I was on the air twice. Prior to coming to Purchase, I also served as a Legislative Aide for the New York City Council. I also serve as a member of the NASPA Region II Advisory Board where I serve as Regional Historian. In addition, I serve as a member of the Teachers College Alumni Council.
