A thoughtful writer comes up with explanations for Interactive WhiteBoards' tepid success in helping students, and great success in selling product to administrators.  Lesson: now sell your stock in Promethean.
When the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) first caught the eye of educators in the late 90s and early 2000s, it invigorated hope that education technology might begin to align with the digital age. In fact, these IWBs were respectfully dubbed a “window-to-the-world

I trust I can teach my students something more substantial to guide their lives, something broader and deeper than their own enrichment, their own pleasure.  As usual, Shakespeare said it first -- we don't usually view the broader context of the aphorism To Thine Own Self Be True.
In the New Age worship of the “authentic” self, personal well-being has become the primary goal of human life.

I remember visiting Bhutan with son Chris, the summer of 2007 and discussing the democratic process with our hosts.  What an exciting and fascinating time that was.  Our hosts characterized the nascent parties as simply personality-driven, not associated with any ideology.   As I said at the time, I hope some doctoral students were observing the process so as to better document it -- perfect subject for a political science (or Anthropology) dissertation!  Bhutan is certainly a plausible modern avatar for ShangriLa.
The second general election is underway in the Himalayan kingdom, which was until recently ruled by a monarch.

Quality all the way, worth the price. We have ordered four times now -- shipment perfect, quick, just right, super quality products that we cannot easily get elsewhere.

Inside it is clean pleasant modern quiet well-organized helpful. The rooms are small but efficient. Our room had a beautiful ocean view. Excellent value. Our morning breakfast was not cheap, but was excellent and restful. Only problem: finding the place: 1-google Maps listed 2 locations, both on Salem al-Mubarak Road-- the desk clerk nicely promised to try to clarify that (and evidently I can't modify googlemaps for kuwait); and 2- the lobby is actually on the 3rd floor, which fact is hard to determine from the lack of signage downstairs...curious why there are so few directional signs on the ground floor. Also parking is a bit confusing, but it works out.

Huge warehouses full of old and refinished and reproductions of furniture of all sorts, super selection, and patient salesmen. Prices are mysterious. Do NOT pay full amount in advance. We got burned. Pay full amount only after they complete promised activities, whether it be refinishing or delivery. They promised to do refinishing and send us photos of the result. No result. But they got our cheque. Shame on me for paying them.
