The camera never sees in the way we see. The goal of the photographer is to give the camera some
Perspective so that it can meaningfully expose the scene that wants remembering. Three perspectives of a sunrise.

Selfie. I don't have many of these. I inadvertently stepped onto the frame of another camera I had setup for time lapse.

Saturday evening's warm sunset was a perfect spot to do some time lapse photography and while that was happening I made a panorama with the iPhone 6+ which I then edited in Topaz Texture Effects, Glow, and finalized in Impression with some painterly overlay, striving for a more vibrant original oil look before it fades with antiquity.

A panorama stitched from several iPhone 6+ images edited in Photoshop, the first as a basic print to canvas and the second one as a painting on canvas effect. The subject is the Lower Fox Creek School located on the National Tall Grass Prairie Reserve in the Kansas Flint Hills +getolympus +Topaz Labs #panorama #landscape #iphoneography #FlintHills

A favorite subject of mine. This portrait is part of a series of broader panoramic views of our dramatic skies during the spring and summer months when the warm moist air mixes with cooler air at higher altitudes creating these monsters that spin slowly but surely across the landscape. Watching them form and come down toward the ground is both wonderful and dreadful. +Olympus  #landscape   #weather   #storms   #clouds   #sunset   #Kansas

I don't do a lot of street photography, mainly because I'm rarely in the city in the way I am IN the countryside. But from time to time I get the chance to do some candid photography in cities I travel to/through. This sidelong glance stopped me in my tracks and after signing a model release, it posed in this catch light on the rail of an outdoor cafe in Knoxville, TN. #street   #natives   #candid   #avian   #chance   #photography   #olympus

A thunder-storm!—the eloquence of heaven,
When every cloud is from its slumber riven,
Who hath not paused beneath its hollow groan,
And felt Omnipotence around him thrown?
With what a gloom the ush’ring scene appears!
The leaves all shiv’ring with instinctive fears,
The waters curling with a fellow dread,
A veiling fervour round creation spread,
And, last, the heavy rain’s reluctant shower,
With big drops patt’ring on the tree and bower,
While wizard shapes the bowing sky deform,—
All mark the coming of the thunder-storm!
~Robert Montgomery, The Omnipresence of the Deity

"Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything,
That's how the light gets in."
~Leonard Cohen

That quote is meaningful to me having been a photographer of one sort or another for so many years; well decades. I suppose it was inevitable that I would at some point find myself at peace with my skill and abilities with a camera. I know I will, for as long as I live, expect my best photographs must still yet to be made - either they have yet to be acquired by my camera, or they are sitting patiently on one of my 20+ terabytes of hard drives, awaiting my lifelong learning endeavor to finally be able to take them to where I feel they belong, or close to it.
Not that they will ever be perfect or finished. That doesn't really exist in my world. But I rarely feel frustrated or unhappy with the effort. To me, it's a miracle every day when I can make a photograph in the camera. Light itself is a miracle. Only God can create it. Only God can truly explain what the light reveals to our eyes and even deeper, to our mind and soul.
I try and take a day every few weeks and just peruse the archives of my photographic databases and each time I come away with a thrill when I see the 'magic' still waiting there for me to explore when the opportunity presents itself. We have been thrice blessed by God: the ability to see beauty, the ability to record beauty, and the ability to recreate beauty. +Topaz Labs +Jamie MacDonald +Angela B Pan Photography #GetOlympus #OM-D #landscape #Kansas #sunrise #FlintHills

taking a break between edit sessions... it's Resurrection Sunday. One of the early songs I taught myself on guitar as a kid.
