Weekly Writing Exercise: February March 8-13, 2016
Sorry I'm late this week! Here's this week's photo prompt. Feel free to take the idea of this in whatever direction you wish -- your story does not have to feature a person walking on tracks, although it certainly can. I hope this inspires you!

RULES
~600 words or less
~story or poetry
~related to the image
~no commentary allowed
~VOTE.

Submissions or comments that don't follow the rules will be removed, no matter how awesome. Sorry. If you need to contact me to ask about the contest or comment about the photo, please tag me in a private post. Thank you!

1) All submissions must be added as a COMMENT to this post, not as new posts in this section (or anywhere else).

2) All submissions (including your title) must be less than 600 words. In the case of a questionable word count, I will use Google Docs to verify.

3) Only include the title and text of your submission in your comment. Please don't add any questions, links, commentary, requests for feedback, etc. STORIES ONLY!

4) Please submit only one story each week. If you have more than one, choose your best entry.

5) Your submission must be inspired by the attached photo. How you choose to do that is up to you. Feel free to be creative!

6) ANYONE CAN VOTE. Even if you don't write a story, PLEASE VOTE for your favorites! You can +1 as many entries as you like.

7) Anyone can add their submission at any time in the contest period. However, the voting will be counted and a winner chosen on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 2 p.m. Pacific Time.

8) Winners are chosen by +1 count. Just that simple. (Ties will be broken by sudden death cage match, or by a call for votes, whichever costs less money at the time.)

9) If you +1 your own submission, please also +1 at least one other submission.

What you win:
-Admiration and envy from your fellow writers
-A chance to practice, practice, practice
-Your submission re-posted at the conclusion of the contest and added to Featured Posts.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly by tagging me into a private post. If you ever come across a fun prompt idea, please tag me! I collect intriguing images and interesting text.

tl;dr:
~600 words or less
~story or poetry
~related to the image
~no commentary allowed
~VOTE.

Have fun! Be creative!

I couldn't track down the original photographer of this one. Please let me know if you do, and I'll update this section. :)

Some thoughts on the new #StarTrek and a hopeful look toward the future.
Jeffrey Hite originally shared:

Some thoughts on the new #StarTrek TimeLine #timeTravel and hope for the future.

I have many thoughts about the various timelines in Star Trek. Really, if you know me, I have many thoughts about Star Trek in general but let’s stick to the topic at hand. There is a lot to be said for the new timeline that was created by J. J. Abrams.…

It's a challenge for any movie reboot of a TV property. For all the movies have a higher budge and production values, they simply cannot match the gentle accretion of hours that a single TV season provides, so it feels hollow, or rushed, or shallow and flashy. This becomes true the more action-adventure it becomes.

(The same applies, in some ways, to comic book movies, though the source material there is often more confusing and complex over time.)

The original ST movies could overcome the lack of time for nuance and quiet character moments by drawing on three seasons of those. The new ones cannot. (The old movies also had the "advantage" of nobody expected 50-60yo actors in a high-energy action flick, so more quiet moments had room to happen even in the movies.) The new movies cannot until a lot more happens, and, even then, it will be about the universe, not about those actors and characters.
