October is almost in full swing here in the monstrous mitten of Michigan and I'm having spooky thoughts. I miss Art Bell - king of late night talk radio.
It all began when the format of the radio program changed from West Coast AM to Coast to Coast AM and metamorphosed from political talk to "things that go bump in the night" and oh, what a ride.
In the glory years I would listen on the radio or online the next day to C2C and what Art's thought were on topics of the day entering the after dark world of conspiracy, occult and the unknown.
I'm not sure whether he was another P.T. Barnum or Larry King but probably both in terms of showmanship and late night radio entertainment. A thought provoking voice in the middle of the night.
Art retired and returned multiple times most recently we had him all too briefly for a handful of weeks in 2013 with a SiriusXM Radio deal which brought us Art Bell's Dark Matter but apparently the relationship was strained and did not work out. After six weeks he was gone and his non-compete clause with SiriusXM expires in July 2015 and so another year (Halloween) without Art.
Now podcasts are a ubiquitous alternative to talk radio (though there are also those riders of the airwaves too) guides that are still interested in such topics as were popularized by Art - Whitley Strieber's Dreamland, Clyde Lewis' Ground Zero Media, Mysterious Universe, The Paracast, Radio Misterioso and Real Ghost Stories Online... and the list goes on.
Admittedly, I have an appetite for some unhealthy? rich mind candy but even with the current batch I sure could go for some Art right about now. That and some warm apple cider and maybe a handful of candy corn.http://youtu.be/ljCyw8oFvoA
