Amazon book review written for +Andy Goldman's The Only City Left (http://www.amazon.com/review/R2Q3NCOS35B0EV)

For the past 3-4 months, I've been lax with my reading. I'm trying to get back into a rhythm and reading more consistently.

Goodbye, my west coast peeps. I shall mourn your passing.
A superstitious video has been making the rounds on Facebook this week.

We are still here. I think all the fracking in Oklahoma and Texas has been releasing the pressure on our fault lines.

no.

No!

NOOOOO!!!!!!
It was inevitable, but it’s still a bummer. Fox will remake John Carpenter’s amazing, way-ahead-of-its-time action flick Big Trouble in Little China, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson attached to star as Jack Burton, originally played by Kurt Russell.

This is turning into a very "odd" day. There's been no one incident or period of weirdness, per se, but just an overall "that's not quite right" and "something's just a little off" vibe.

Just looked at a site that has 7 "content" elements. The page has 46 words, 1 form field and 1 button.

Then I looked at the source: 25 javascript link references, 7 in-line javascript scripts, 10 stylesheet links, 5 in-line stylesheets, plus the tags for the content that is visible in the browser has in-line styles.

The html for the page weighs in at 6.8Kb.
It took 2.09 seconds from the time my request was sent until the browser got the first byte.

This is why I don't use Wordpress.

WordPress is a beast of convenience, not optimization. Also, headaches and other annoyances.

Introduction
I work in computers (that whole "cloud" thing.) If I told you any more about my job, your eyes would glaze over.

I live in rural Virginia because I prefer the sounds of nature over the sounds of city traffic.

I support the arts as directly as possible - because art, in all its forms, must thrive.

I enjoy people - because man was not meant to be alone.

My principle philosophy: If you're not having fun doing what you're doing, make it fun. If you can't make it fun, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

"If you don't have a plan, you can end up doing some interesting things." - Karl Pilkington

Circling
I will probably not circle you back if:
  • You have no posts
  • You don't fill out your profile (how am I supposed to identify with you otherwise?)
  • You only post links to websites/photos/videos
  • You are obviously advertising your business
  • You're pawning yourself off as a "SEO [whatever]"
  • You don't speak English
Bragging rights
I got pulled over for driving 55 in a 25. I drove away with a verbal warning.

I already knew exactly what I wanted before I stepped into the showroom, I only needed to test drive the '11 CRV before making my final decision. Theresa explained the available options and handled the sale quickly. The only negative about my buying experience was waiting for the financing manager to get through with another couple - though I can't blame that on the financing manager, sometimes it just takes time (unfortunately, my 2 year old son doesn't understand that.) We got good financing terms and they issued plates on the spot.
