I got lucky this time and got the new roller jewel positioned just right on the first try. I usually have to reheat the shellac and straighten the jewel a couple of times.

+Jeff Sexton When I was learning this technique the other week at school I felt silly thinking that I was kind of ham-handed. I'd put the jewel in crooked and had to redo it a couple times.
The longer I'm in school the more I realize, these things are just part of watchmaking.
Hearing someone as experienced as you say that you'll still place a jewel crooked from time to time makes me feel less apprehensive about my skills and my future as a watchmaker.
Thanks for sharing.1w
+Michael Davis - the important thing is understanding that it has to be straight and true, and understanding why and how it won't work if it's not. If you have that understanding, it doesn't matter what you have to do to get it right. The understanding and knowledge are the key, the rest is "only" practice. And more practice...1w
