#SCCM   #ConfigMgr  This could be pretty big for SCCM.
In Windows 10 we are launching a new PackageManagement feature (formerly referred to as OneGet) that enables ITPros or DevOps to automate software discovery, installation, and inventory (SDII), locally or remotely, no matter what the installer technology is and where the software is located.

I had to laugh when he compared using Linux to catching an elephant and grilling it versus going to the store and buying a steak (Windows).
I've been using computers almost every day since 1984, starting with a Sinclair Spectrum, doing the inevitable long Amiga stretch, then finally giving in to using Windows, later becoming a wannabe cool kid and switching to OS...

Good write up about performance variations depending on Manufacturer on Intel's new M-5Y* processors.  The processor can be either well programmed and designed or poorly put together and performance can vary greatly.
A new report shows that Intel's Core M performance depends a great deal on which OEM hardware you buy in the first place. While this has always been true to some extent, the gaps are significantly larger this generation.

This article gave me pause today as I start my work week.  http://jcs.biologists.org/content/121/11/1771.full

I help manage thousands of computers specifically 85k computers.  I learned when working with smaller numbers of devices that experimentation is necessary to test hypothesis.  Very often (more often than shared) computers drift off of their normal configuration this is called configuration drift.  This can be done innocently by a technician or maliciously by malware and sometimes just poorly written software.

If you don't validate your environment before making a configuration change you will cause more problems than you solve.  That often means creating a hypothesis, creating a test and comparing the data.  Like in science, you don't get 100% validation.  Instead you look at 92% and make a judgement call as to what is true.  Once you know what is true you can start changing the environment and retest to see if your change helped.

Here is to discovering some new knowledge this week through experimentation.

I upgraded my OnePlus One to the new Oxygen OS and I'm quite happy. They did a great job. It is exactly what I was looking for a Google Nexus experience. Some people are very upset that Oxygen OS doesn't include the Cyanogen privacy options but it doesn't bother me.

I had some issues because you need to turn off a recovery option in Developer mode before overwriting the recovery image. Then I had to allow Oxygen OS to install without checking the hash value.

Story
Tagline
Here is just a bunch of random notes to myself, for myself, and if it happens to help someone else...cool.
Introduction
I have 3 wonderfuls children and a great wife.

My current passions include Android, ChromeOS, GoogleTV, and finally workstation reliability and health over a massive scale using Microsoft's SCCM 2007.

I have worked in IT for a small eye doctor where I cut my teeth on supporting 70 workstations and 4 servers.  I then worked for a small provider group supporting 600 workstations and 30 servers which was finally merged with a downtown county hospital with 5000 workstations and 1 configuration server.  Finally, I moved on to a consulting group which supports a national nonprofit organization with 20k workstations and 250 configuration servers.

Now I'm working as a contractor for a Fortune 500 company working on the Desktop Security Team for 85k workstations.

Bragging rights
One of the few users that learned how to use Microsoft's RIS deployment system. It took a lot of patience back then.
