Excellent presentation of servercheck.in at St. Louis Drupal Camp. Brilliant use of node.js

Just discovered a cool trick with Logic Pro X and Drummer. You can create a "Drummer" track then option-click-drag (which creates an alias) the track into a track using Superior Drummer, Kontakt, Battery or drum plugin of your choice and have Drummer play the samples. It is then possible to go back to the drummer track and edit and it will be applied to all of the alias tracks.

Some have dissed the dark interface on LPX but since I mainly record at night, it's a blessing.

The only problem I've found is when you open a LP9 project pre-sends are converted into post-sends. The only work around I've found is to bring the track into a track stack which fixes it. If you bring in a LP9 project to LP10 and it sounds different, it's not your imagination. Definitely a bug, hopefully Apple will fix it in the next update.

If you give in when you know you are right, just because it is the "easy" route, it will come back to haunt you.

Coffee VS Beer, which is best for creativity? The answer thankfully is both, sort of. Beer is useful when brainstorming. I've found this to be very true. The trick is, and one of the best pieces of advice a former boss every gave me. ALWAYS carry a little notebook. When you're brainstorming over a beer many of the best ideas are lost the next morning. I've tried using my Iphone and it's just to much trouble. A little notebook or napkin is best. Use the Iphone to take photos of your notes and scribbles and send them to Evernote.

Coffee comes in the next morning when it's time for execution of the idea(s).

Beer = Brainstorming
Coffee = Filtering ideas and Execution

This article doles up the neuroscience behind this "how to" recommendation.

Pod HD500 Annoyances Solved

I recently upgraded my POD XT to a POD HD500 along with acquiring a Line6 JVT59 modeling guitar. Initially I was disappointed in the sound of the HD500. I found it impossible to adjust the amp sims without overdriving (not in a good way) the signal path.

Then I discovered something not made clear in the documentation. If you have the input 2 set to "Same" it sums the signal thus making it to hot. See the diagram below, for the correct settings. This patch is using the Variax, if you are plugging a guitar with a 1/4" cable set Input 1 to "Guitar". Problem solved, it sounds great.

Secondly I wanted a footswitchable volume boost for leads without coloration. This was solved by.
1) Using an insert cable (1/4" TRS to 2 1/4") in the effects loop
2) Assigning the effects loop to the end of the signal chain
3) Assigning the effects loop to controller FS4 and setting the default to "Off"
4) Adjust the amount of boost with the return gain to taste

I had tried inserting an eq at the end of the signal path but it did color the sound and it took processor cycles, the effects loop takes little if any processor power.

Then next issue was lack of a Mesa Boogie MKIIC model. I was able to come surprisingly close using the "Divide 9/15" model.

Hope this helps someone escape some agony trying to get their tone.

Ian Hunter has a new album coming out soon. "When I'm President" excellent song. Great lyrics "You go in with the right intent...", "You can't take it with you, so give a little extra" http://soundcloud.com/missingpiecegroup-1/3-when-im-president

They did work on our furnace and the bill was far less than I had from the Lennox dealer and they fixed it right the first time. Very courteous and polite, showed up on time and explained everything they did. I trust and highly recommend them.
