Float On

When you have a beautiful bride, a wedding dress, a blowing wind, and a vacant wonderland... you seize the moment.

Surprise! I have more of these, but I don't want to release them all at once. I'm still processing them, honestly. This was right down the road from Búðakirkja, the black church of Búðir on the Snæfellsnes peninsula in western Iceland.

Late Evening Wanderings

Our first evening in Iceland, we went to Þingvellir National Park and then tried to find an unconventional route back to Reykjavik. We ended up on a little road with some wonderful views. This was a little after the sun had already gone down... the evening's "blue hour" was more purple on this day.

Moonlit Majesty

Under the light of the moon, this mountain shone bright. From the town of Höfn in eastern Iceland, this is looking toward Vesturhorn.

Voyage of the Sun

This is the Sun Voyager. She is a sculpture in Reykjavik, but she looks like she could also be a 3D-rendering inserted into a photo, to me.

(I was under the impression that vessels, like ships, traditionally received a feminine pronoun... is that still appropriate?)

Celebrate Life

Life is so precious... and so astounding. It is worth celebrating!

I still have so many Iceland photos to process and share, but with new growth springing forth, I felt like sharing some recent things I've seen through my camera lens.

The Neverending Tides

From the same morning as yesterday's moon-set, this is looking toward Dyrhólaey from Reynisfjara black sand beach in Vik.

#weekofvik (it rhymes)

Farewell, Moon

I pulled up to Reynisfjara black sand beach in time to shoot the sunrise, but the sun didn't offer its first greeting until several hours after its scheduled rise. The moon, however, was ready to bid its farewell over the alien landscape in Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland.

I hadn't really intended to do a #weekofvik (for those who didn't know... Vik actually rhymes with week), but as this is my 3rd Vik picture in a row... maybe I'll finish with one?

Rising From the Dark

Here's another shot of Reynisfjara black sand beach in Vík í Mýrdal in southern Iceland... this time in the early morning. Those basalt columns were just so fascinating to behold. Also, I had to warn more than one photographer who weren't paying attention as the sneaker waves swept in by their feet.

Over the Black

In Vik, Iceland, the Reynisfjara black sand beach is an absolutely otherworldly site. The black sand itself is unusual to most people because we aren't accustomed to sand coming from lava rocks, but the basalt columns that lined the beach and stuck out from the water were simply surreal.

These columns also seemed to beg to be used as launch-points for a jump... wouldn't you agree? :)

A Place to Ponder

A place like this is worthy of your time, in my opinion. It's worthy of the trek to a distant land and losing (lots of) sleep.

I saw Kirkjufell (the mountain) and Kirkjufellsfoss (the waterfall) under a variety of qualities of light (sunrise, moonlit, downpour, light drizzle, foggy...), and they all made me ponder and stand in awe of the beauty around me.

This concludes my #weekofkirk where I highlight this mountain of Grundarfjörður, Iceland and the grandeur around it!
