Instead, I would argue that they are investing in themselves, by having a savings account they are able to make lifestyle risks that haven't been available to other generations. Freelance, work abroad, build a start-up, etc.
It is this generations nature to dis-trust established financial institutions after the last massive recession. Why put your hard earned money into a "wealth manager" when you could save, have the life and experience you want and provide value to society?
The risks are different, but I would say they are more ground breaking than putting your money into a portfolio.
