"This is the angst that fills those in the news business, and society broadly. The reality of the Internet is that there is no more bell curve; power laws dominate, and the challenge of our time is figuring out what to do with a population distribution that is fundamentally misaligned with Internet economics."

This is why great journalists will thrive in the digital era - even if publications struggle.
The problem for newspapers is not just advertising, but rather that their readers no longer have to settle for average. Greatness is just a click away.

Important story about how a good general counsel kept Ben Horowitz out of jail.  Important lesson for entrepreneurs.

If this is what didn't make it into the book, I can't wait to see what did!

Chromeboxes are perfect for video conferencing.  Great product and integration with Uberconference makes this even better.  Might have to give this a try at +Upstart
The best meetings are face-to-face—we can brainstorm openly, collaborate closely and make faster decisions. But these days, we often connect with each other from far-flung locations, coordinating time zones and dialing into c...

Cool....I've been kludging this together in my SigEp hangouts for some time using FreeConferenceCall.com.  I'm excited to see a Conf Call company become interested and integrate.  Thanks for sharing +Jeff Keltner

"For the traditional executives running these large companies, of course they want to grow, of course they want to innovate, of course they’d rather have revenue grow faster than slower, but they mostly don’t want to lose what they’ve got. But entrepreneurs are deathly afraid that they won’t be able to change the world, and that somebody else will."

Great insights from Steve Case about the challenges established companies face when trying to innovate.

Innovation means risk, even the entrepreneur can't do too much if the company is listed on the stock market.

Love seeing my old +Google Chrome team doing so well! An awesome platform for so many users. If the New Year brings a device with LTE, high res screen, quality trackpad, and 10+ hrs of battery under 4 lbs I'll be switching back!
Chromebooks exploded onto the market share this year, and appear to be finishing the year on a very strong note. That's really rough news news for Microsoft, which is the principal loser of market ...

Thrilled at the announcement today: I'll be starting at the end of the month as the new Director of the Open Technology Institute and VP at the New America Foundation. http://bit.ly/1i9EwJR

Love this concept of "re-decentralizing" the web.  Such a critical component of what makes the web a powerful platform!
The greatest danger is the emergence of a balkanized Internet.

"In most countries, education feels like a car factory. In Finland, the teachers are the entrepreneurs."

I love that analogy. There's is a lot we can learn from this model.

Some of the disparities in our cultures, however, make transferring that style of classroom to the US an insurmountable goal.  And I sure wish we could eliminate helicopter Moms & Dads in this country.   Our kids used to do better when they actually had to do the stuff themselves, as it appears the Finnish kids do.

If you're going to trust a PM on how to handle enterprise roadmaps, make it +Rajen Sheth.  Loved this article on his preso to +Google Ventures by Ken Norton.
What Google’s first enterprise product manager can teach us about product roadmaps

I remember roads that looked like an ice rink, being an hour late to a meeting, and presenting a roadmap that had graphs in spreadsheets as a "definitely sometime" and presentations was a coming feature of the word processor!  Fun times...
