Loving what I've read so far! In the spirit of [adjective][noun][verb] character concepts, I really want to make a Hoopy Frood Who Really Knows Where His Towel Is. ;-)

Salvaged cabinets from our kitchen remodel -- custom built by the former owner of our place in the 60s -- plywood w/ real wood veneer. Check out the massive lazy susan!

The 1967 Cosmo article "The Computer Girls" is fascinating, as is the history surrounding it. I also liked the insight (from the interview) into how framing a internship in competitive v. mentoring language can heavily influence whether or not qualified women apply.

Thanks! The intersections of geekery, cognitive bias, race and gender are all definitely interesting to me.

I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you,
But I get the feeling that you don't like it. What's with all the screaming?
You like monkeys. You like ponies. Maybe you don't like monsters so much.
Maybe I used too many Monkeys? Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

...possibly the best lyrics of all time?

Kudos to +Erica Joy for helping to inspire and make this happen!

Relatively little is known about the relationship of genetics to disease in blacks; most of the research has been done on white folks. 23andMe has kicked off an ambitious project to change that. If you're black and would like to participate, check out this link, get interesting data about your maternal and paternal ancestry, and help gather the data to better understand genetic markers in black health.

Woohoo I can finally talk about this!

Roots into the Future is going to be an amazing opportunity for African-American's to participate in genomic studies.

I can't wait to see what 23andMe is able to find out about the diseases that plague our race (diabetes, heart disease, etc).

If you identify as African-American, Afro-Caribbean, or Afro-anythingelse, I encourage you to sign up at http://www.23andme.com/roots (and while you're there, check out the Advisors *ahem*).

A recent article in Wired Magazine highlighted how the genome revolution has been skipping most people in the world: 96% of participants in recent genomic studies trace most of their ancestry to Europ...
