Remember that great shooting location I found on my first night here in Sydney? Well...I went back there tonight with one of my workshop attendees and we got some epic shots of all the Sydney Vivid color from the Harbour Bridge!

Here is another photo from Sydney Vivid last night. This time I rolled the zoom while shooting the Harbour Bridge. It was a 6 second exposure with a slow zoom roll out at the 5th second. What do you think?

The sun is getting low in Sydney. Almost time for the big light show to begin!!!!

For this shot, I lowered the aperture to f/20 and moved to where the sun was just peeking out above the opera house sails to create the starburst.

(Canon 5D Mark IV, 100-400mm lens at 164mm, ISO 400, f/20, 1/250 sec)

Last night, they were testing the lights for the Vivid show (which starts tonight and runs for 3 weeks). I was photographing the opera house and bridge from the other side of the Sydney harbor and the bridge was dark. Just as I closed my tripod to leave, the testing began. I set up again and grabbed some more photos, including this one. I can't wait for tonight!

(Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm lens at 65mm, ISO 100, f/13, 30 second exposure, on Gitzo tripod with Acratech ballhead)

Last night, I captured this photo of the Opera House and business district, from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. People always ask me how I got the shot, so today's blog post explains the planning, thought process, challenges, camera settings, retouching and more. Check it out at:

I was photographing some surfers at Bondi Beach yesterday and caught the last couple minutes of sunlight. That last bit of light hit this wave and created a rainbow of colors around this surfer. Unexpected, but cool!

I love capturing those candid moments where my subjects have no idea I am taking their photo. These are the most genuine smiles and excitement! This photo is from last night's Bat Mitzvah party, when Audrey was watching the photo montage with her friends. This is why we do what we do!!!

(Canon 1Dx MK II, 70-200mm at 75mm, Manual mode, ISO 400, f/4, 1/125 sec, one Canon 600 EX-RT flash on camera (diffused with a MagSphere) and one flash on a Manfrotto light stand in the corner of the room)

Here is another favorite photo from Allison and Piotr's wedding this week. I had Allison stand by a window at City Hall in San Francisco, to catch this perfect window light. I then added just a little fill light from my Canon 600 EX-RT flash (with the MagSphere diffuser) to open the shadows slightly on her left side.

(Canon 1Dx Mark II, 70-200mm lens at 80mm, ISO 640, f/2.8, 1/640 sec)

On Wednesday, I was lucky enough to photograph the wedding of our good friend's daughter. This photo was taken inside City Hall in San Francisco (which is an amazing place to photograph). I love this shot of Allison and Piotr just after they exchanged their vows. Congrats to them!

(Canon 1Dx Mark II, 70-200m lens at 150mm, ISO 400, f/4, 1/100 sec, mostly window light with just a small amount of flash added from the Canon 600EX-RT on camera)
