Could not stand Stack any more, so I made a wrapper for nix-shell and cabal-install:

https://github.com/jyp/styx/blob/master/README.org

It's a 200-line script which does 100% of what I need in Stack. Furthermore it does not require recompiling over and over (thanks to nix), and it frees me from Stackage.

Hope it's useful to more than me.

So, Apple is way set on "showing the way of the future", and is not afraid of pissing off people in the short term for long term benefits.

This gives me hope for a non-staggered keyboard on their laptops. #thinkdifferent

"These scripts get served from God knows where and are the perfect vector for malware.

Advertisers will tell you it has to be this way, but in dealing with advertisers you must remember they are professional liars.

I don’t mean this to offend. I mean it as a job description. An advertiser's job is to convince you to do stuff you would not otherwise do."

We once glorified Twitter as a great global town square, a shining agora where everyone could come together to converse. But I’ve never been to a town square where people can shove, push, taunt, bully, shout, harass, threaten, stalk, creep, and mob you…for eavesdropping on a conversation that they weren’t a part of…to alleviate their own existential rage…at their shattered dreams…and you can’t even call a cop.

This phenomenon applies to all network social connections, and it has existed long before Twitter. But the author describes it well.

With an UPDATE concerning the cartesian method.
"Peer review is the practice where the work of a researcher is commented by peers. The content of the commentaries (reviews) is clearly not important. The social practice is to not make them public, nor to keep a public record about those. The only purpose of peer review is to signal that at least one, two, three or four members of the professional community (peers) declare that they believe that the said work is valid. Validation by reproducibility is much more than this ..."

How many Swedes should be blamed for the ramming through of a new highway around Stockholm — the greatest infrastructure project in modern Swedish history — or their government’s assistance to coal power plants in South Africa?

The most extreme illusions about the perfect democracy of the market are required to maintain the notion of “us all” driving the [climate change] train.

Allured by modal editing, but scared of by its "evil" side?
Try out "Boon", the gentler modal editing mode for emacs. (Now for colemak layout only).

- Ergonomic: common commands are easy to type
- Lightweight: ~300 loc for its core.
- Good emacs integration: takes advantage of, and leverages existing
emacs infrastructure instead of re-inventing the wheel.
