Learning another language may make your brain better. Very interesting read- what do you think?

"Multi-linguals tend to score better on standardized tests, especially in math, reading, and vocabulary; they are better at remembering lists or sequences, likely from learning grammatical rules and vocabulary; they are more perceptive to their surroundings and therefore better at focusing in on important information while weeding out misleading information." "More recently and perhaps most importantly, it’s been found that people who learn a second language, even in adulthood, can better avoid cognitive decline in old age. In fact, when everything else is controlled for, bilinguals who come down with dementia and Alzheimer’s do so about four-and-a-half years later than monolinguals."

'All men are created equal'. Where does that leave women? If the truth is self-evident, and all men have 'certain unalienable rights', then why do they not apply to women? Let's work to make the world a better place for all. Women are not possessions to be mistreated, they are not chattel to be sold, bartered or transferred, they are not children to be guided. You can't disregard, disrespect and disenfranchise fully half of the world's population: the part which brings forth new life, nurtures it to maturity, and is also capable of everything the other half does while being emotionally and mentally more resilient and not expect YOUR society to be lopsided, your children to be weaker then they could be, your families to be brittle, your neighborhoods to be unsafe, your world to be less beautiful than it could be!

Educate the girl child. Stop violence against women. Teach everyone that 'No means No'. Promote Gender Equality. Work toward men and women considering each other as partners, not standing in front or behind but at each other's side. Then see your world realize its full potential, its true strength, its true stability!

Happy International Women's Day!

Find fun for kids and adults alike! Finding engaging AND educational resources for kids is like having your cake and eating it, too! #knowledgegraph  is a useful resource for summer learning.

Research shows that children often lose academic proficiency over the summer months. From National Summer Learning Association ( ): "Research spanning 100 years shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer (White, 1906; Heyns, 1978; Entwisle & Alexander 1992; Cooper, 1996; Downey et al, 2004)."

If your child enjoys a particular book, use the Knowledge Graph in Google Search to help them find similar books to keep them reading this summer. Say that your kid loved Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. Search for [maniac magee] and the Knowledge Graph to the right will show you information, including other books that people search for. When you click on one, you'll see a carousel at the top of the results page showing many books from similar searches. By clicking on a book, you'll learn more about the plotline and hopefully discover new reads. Similarly, you can also find more works by an authors in the same way. Try searching for [jerry spinelli] and click on Books to see a full carousel of his works. Don't forget to search for some good summer reading for yourself, too!

For #SandyHook #Newtown, the ones who're gone & the ones left behind...

It's hard to believe
That you're gone
A phantom touch,
A gentle giggle,
Things you found
Funny enough to
Snort milk out
A faint sound
Out and about

I turn around
In my mind, I scream
Maybe it’s a dream
Around a corner
I'll find you
Playing too well,
Hide & seek
Or peek-a-boo

I hope & pray
I'll catch up with you,
Somewhere, someday
In the better place,
You belong
I'll see your face
My darling, my beloved
It's hard to believe
That you're gone

For all lord Ganesh followers, here is a photo of this year's Lalbaugcha Raja, he who fulfills all his devotees' wishes and hopes. Established in 1934, this Ganapati is visited by more than 1.5 million visitors daily during the festival, people standing anywhere from 3- 20+ hours in line for a 'darshan'!

Anant Chatardasi is up soon, so may all your dreams and wishes come true by the Lalbaugcha Raja's grace!
