Well where do I begin, I suppose I better go right back to the good old school days.
I was a pupil at Mounts Bay School & Community Sports College from 2000 to 2005 whilst there like most I learnt some of the most boring subjects on earth but now looking back they are not so and have been the building blocks of my business and social career's.
Brief history of my school life and how I progressed through it:
I've always found myself to be an adventagous person and I was and will always be a continued hard worker, after all I'm a firm believer that efforts in eitherclass or work will be rewarded. I used my school time wisely as my previous school experience was poor and left me with learning difficulties. When I started my secondary school education I didn't know my alphabet, I couldn't even understand my own handwriting and couldn't even count or spell the simplest things, I worked after school in one to one sessions to help re-build and regain self confidence in the subjects I didn't understand.
Although I'm still to this day embarrassed of having such difficulties I had hope and also the driving determination to make sure I over came my problems.
I was always one of the class joker's along with some fellow friends and I suppose that's helped shape my attitude and personality today, thought this was normally the highlight of my day I understood that certain work and attention to lessons was needed in order to keep up with the class.
After spending almost 4 1/2 years of my personal time (after school, during breaks) re-learning what I should of learnt back in primary school I feel I've proved to almost everyone that with the correct attitude and determination you can achieve anything in life. Although I spent so much time re-learning skills this time was not enough and would also continue whilst I was in college.
I finally left Mounts Bay School in the summer of 2005 with GCSE results that were not predicted by anyone, and came to a huge shock to myself and fellow teachers. Due to my learning difficulties I was pre-graded to get E's and F's across the board but I came out shining with 3 D's, 2 F's 1 E and an A.
Brief history of my college life and experiences:
Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to attend college or University but after leaving Mounts Bay School I started to realise I may not ever get the chance to experience life as a student because of my learning difficulties and GCSE grades. After much talking and meetings with career guidance tutors I was able to get an interview with Cornwall College. This was the start of my long and hard working education which was to help form my business Dan & Jason.
After much antispation and waiting the governing tutors and senior management had decided to take me on as a student on the basis that I work to my best and accept a learning support helper for Key Skills, As you can imagine I was in estatics and couldn't wait to get going. I had always been interested in Computers and was about to embark on a GNVQ qualification in ICT, many of my friends found this odd as I never did much IT work at school.
After starting my course I was not only nervous but also very excited to even be there after all I shouldn't of been with the GCSE results I had, after settling in I became one of the years best academically achieving students the college had seen in a long time. I was very proud with my achievement and of the fact I've proven myself as a worthy student who is dedicated to making his future plausible.
I went onto strive from strength to strength throughout my GNVQ and ended up with grades equivalent to double B's in GCSE's, By this time I had made friends for life.
While taking every opportunity to improve on my essential skills like spelling and handwriting I was also achieving at a higher rate than the BTECH students, If I'm totally honest I didn't spend all that much time on trying to get the highest results on course work but I'm sure I would of surprised myself if I had. I went onto complete my AGCE in ICT the following year later by which time I had begun to loose interest in my education due to the formation of Dan & Jason which was demanding several hours of my time I just couldn't give unless I stopped college. It was a tough decision to make and looking back it was one I'm proud of taking.
Brief history of my work life and other experiences:
Well where do I start I'll begin with my most recent work in terms of employment (not Dan & Jason) I'm currently only employed by Tesco Ltd who I've worked for since July 2007. I'm working on increasing my horizon's with Tesco by showing my dedication and ability to show them what I'm good at, which brings me nicely onto my next area of work and experience. Although I spent 3 years at college studying ICT and Cisco Network Engineering I have been on several unrelated courses within the Licensed Hospitality Industry.
For about 3 years I had worked for the Regent Bar in Penzance starting out as a KP for their kitchen then after time working my way up to assistant cook, before long I was asked to help assist with the running of the restaurant along side the manager. I enjoyed this responsibility and wanted to further my options I did this by taking up a job and objective on the main Bar upstairs. while I was the only one with a strong determination to make a high impression I was becoming very popular among regular customers, and this eventually lead to me taking over the Bar managers position which was my objective all along.
After sadly leaving the regent due to the sale of the business I began my next major adventure in the Licensed Hospitality Trade, this was to be the completion of my Door Supervisors course (which has proved helpful when out in pubs) once having this under my belt I decided to seek employment with St Austell Brewery as a 3rd party contractor, whilst awaiting a reply I embarked on 2 more course's which would help my application and further my chances of employment in any Bar, Pub, Hotel, Off-licence etc these were My personal Licence and an Advanced Certificate In Licensed Hospitality which is a managers course rolled into 7 full days worth of hard and intense training. I believe after undertaking such qualifications I'm more than worthy of being someone many like to call 'multi tasked'.
As many know I've worked many bars and clubs in my town only to end up at the cross roads, I think in this world certain people have the ability to excel in certain areas of their work where as others have the ability to master several different industries and hold vast qualifications to ensure their safe employment for the future.
I'm sorry I've gone on so much but I wanted to give you a brief (I really do mean a brief) over view of my life from secondary school right up to the present day, Some of the events above took place whilst I was in college and employment I'm recalling this from memory and diary entries. If you would like to contact me about anything I've mentioned above or you just want to chat please do email me email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
