Just got back from a long weekend trip to Yosemite. I randomly encountered this guy slacklining while hiking up to Taft Point.

Old school San Francisco. I remember when there was a Doggie Diner on Lombard and another in the lower Mission. I can't remember where the other locations were.

Rather than paying politicians, who are usually millionaires already, why don't we charge them for the privilege of ruling over us?

Emotiv Insight
TIL this now exists. I haven't been following brain-computer interface (BCI) research since 2012, but it was in a state of total revolution then, if only in its infancy as a technology. And lo and behold, coming this summer... a true end-user product that really can connect your mind with a computer. Think of the gaming possibilities alone.

Who amongst you wishes this social network were your primary one, but that you find yourself more active on Facebook because that's where all your closest friends and family are?

Introduction

I come from the staunch Midwest, born not far from where the Missouri and mighty Mississippi meet, but life has taken me quite far. I have been to five continents. I have hiked through the rainforests and glaciers and deserts, dived from machines in the sky and touched the petroglyphs and altars of dead civilizations. I rode through the Valley of the Gods and crossed the Continental Divide on Going-to-the-Sun Road. I have lived in sight of volcanoes and watched my city consumed with wildfire, twice. I have seen the Pacific Ocean from the west and the east, and the Atlantic. I have snowboarded down giant, beautiful mountains in Colorado and California and biked through the lush green forests of the Pacific Northwest. For a time I sat with Zen students. I have known death and things worse than death, and that teaches me how to live. Sometimes I try to capture the beauty of the world in photography.

My mother cared for the suffering and my father is a philosopher. I was raised in science and nature. My entire life I have sailed strange seas of thought--sometimes for a paycheck. I taught myself to write code when I was eight, and I studied Latin and Greek as a teenager. I explored fractal geometry and music. I have played many different instruments. I love growing things and have a green thumb. I have said and written many things: stories, poems, articles, papers, manuscripts and a patent. I currently lead the technology and engineering efforts of a mobile company in San Francisco. Once, not long ago, I led a team of brilliant engineers and computer scientists creating software for the US intelligence community based on the cognitive sciences. I am drawn to the mind and its workings, and I want to know it so I can understand the world, other people and the strangest mystery--myself. I have much to learn on these subjects.

I love the fire. I have visited Black Rock City many times. There, in the ruthless, baking heat and frigid nights on a dusty playa, I have seen and made art and music and engineered visions that would light your heart on fire too. I have encountered some of the most remarkable souls there. Joyful, fun, crazy, not always that stable, but utterly creative people. Knowing them, and having that world in my life, makes me glad to be alive.

My great passions in life are discovery, creation and adventure, and the celebration of life and its many wonders and pleasures with my friends and family. Most especially with my gorgeous, intelligent, truly beautiful wife. We live in San Francisco, a place that sometimes seems too good to be true.

I maintain a personal blog, jason.wells.me, to share my discoveries, creations, thoughts, ideas and experiences with the world. That is my true online anchor. Come take a look, I write it for you.

Oh, and be magnificent. If you ask me, it's the only way to go.

TL;DR Sui generis. Want more? http://jason.wells.me.
