Today is my 3rd +Ingress
birthday - as officially as I can tell from my earliest rediscovered screenshot from November 20, 2012.Today is also the day I intend to walk away.
I've met lots of great people and had lots of great times. I orchestrated the first farm in town at Winthrop University, helped write new player instructional guides used throughout the state, created stat tracking Google Sheets, and supplied gear in the hundreds of thousands to my fellow agents. I've single-handedly helped at least a half dozen people achieve their Onyx Guardian badges. I've carried teammates around to farms, target portals, levelling runs and even to their homes (in and out of game). I've had lunch with my biggest rivalries and made a good many friendships that I intend to continue.
The Ingress community as a whole has been insanely kind to me and my family over these years - both greens and blues alike. We received kind baby shower gifts for our little Thea and so much financial and other support from even players overseas when we needed the help through tough times. These are all things I will miss.
My life has changed dramatically in the past 3 years and the game has also changed.
Ingress has gotten too big for my preference. Great players slowly left the game only to give way to an influx of players that were selfish, immature and sometimes outright abusive to each other. The consideration and playful rivalry we old timers had for each other is long gone - lost to general chaos, location spoofing and even accusations of property damage. Many newer players expected to be handed gear and support rather than working for it and it was always the expectation that we older players put our personal lives on hold to make that happen.
I suppose that, in the end, I can still say I've truly enjoyed my time playing this game, exploring new areas and meeting fantastic people. I believe my active play has finally run its course, however. It's time to unlace my boots and let the game move on without me.Who knows? I might still pop up every once in awhile. Feel free to say "hi"; I try to make a habit of responding.mujugaba/muju/mujtwo out
