Knowing is half the battle.

Neat facts about South Carolina:

>We don't all live in trailers
>We aren't all ignorant rednecks
>We aren't all racist
>We don't all believe that the War Between the States was strictly over slavery (and neither did all those fighting it)
 >Even leading up to the war, we didn't all believe that slavery was proper behavior
>We relocated the Confederate flag from the capital dome in 2000 to a memorial to Confederate soldiers nearby
>The Confederate flag over the memorial is fixed to the pole itself - preventing it from flying at half mast.

Most of the individuals I've met throughout this state who are in support of flying the flag, view the Confederacy as heritage not a representation of the embarrassing stain on on our state's history- slavery.

Sure, there are still some extremists and even some which are incredibly vocal. I assure you that they are by no means a majority nor a fair representation of the incredibly diverse population who lives in South Carolina.

We've decided to wrap things up with the fundraiser with update 12.

Thank you all once again.
Well, here we are at the end of our fundraiser. I extended our target date once already but truly don’t feel we are in need enough to justify doing it at length yet again. (I am pushing it out an extra day so everyone can see this post) We’ve been blessed by the generosity of strangers, family and friends alike. We have received support in every variation both via this site as well as outside of it. We’ve seen the care from individuals in our h...

The surgery day is here and it's much more brutal than I had expected.
Well, the worst of our arduous journey is upon us. This morning, we woke at 2:45AM to prepare for Lee's surgery - a double mastectomy with reconstruction. I realize that this may seem like an extreme treatment measure to some but considering the Li Fraumeni syndrome which encourages the growth of soft-tissue cancers as well as rules out radiation therapy, it was strongly suggested that we remove all possibilities for a cancerous return - especial...

Dirty Cabling and Buffalo WZR-600DHP Firmware Toils
I promised that I was going to write a few Raspberry Pi-related posts as I stumbled through the setup process but, as I'm sure some of you noticed, it's been a while. I promise there's a reason.... well, several reasons. First and foremost, my area is final...

The Possibly Perfect Project - Pi
For Christmas this year, my wife bought me a  Raspberry Pi B+ . It wasn't much but the tinkerer in me has been drooling over the Pi since its release. Every time I had justified the meager $25 or $35 expense, I managed to find better needs for the money ins...

The issue is hardly that the information isn't available, it's that digging for the real answer is sometimes painful. I know it's difficult to fathom but I would guage my ability to use Google searches at least a 8/10.

I know the ultimate destination of this particular hardware +Franz Critchlow but fumbling through the steps to get there has been less than fun. XBMC/Kodi was a bust but I'll still revisit it in case someone else is interested.

The 11th update is live despite the delay.

Thanks again for everything!
I realize it's been a few weeks since my last update. Things have been, well, complicated. The remainder of surgery day continued as follows: Lee came out of the mastectomy and the reconstruction great (both an hour earlier than expected). She then was taken to recovery and a couple hours later we were able to see her. I put chapstick on her. She liked it. She then broke my heart for a second time that day - as the nurses told me I had to lea...

9th update is live.

I also added a few pictures of Thea since several of you guys mentioned that we hadn't shown much of her on the site.

(I also do apologize for the less-than-stellar way +GiveForward provides picture viewing.)
Once again, it has been a long time since I updated. I do apologize. I would like to start by addressing a complaint with my posts thus far - I have been notified that I have neglected to add pictures of our new addition to these updates. Fret not, today that will be remedied. Althea is doing incredibly well so far. Our new 4-month-old is still gaining weight and has begun to sleep through most nights with small interruptions of needing a paci...

I really have no idea why +Amazon.com insists on not allowing sharing with the appropriate image. It's infuriating.

This is currently $29.97.
"This four-volume, deluxe pocket boxed set contains J.R.R. Tolkien's epic masterworks The Hobbit and the three volumes of The Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King). Each book features a leatherette cover with stamped title and all  four books are held in a leatherette bound box with gold foil stamping."

Pi : The Beginning (Must Knows - Compatibilities and Requirements)
I'm a victim of a horrendous affliction known to manifest as an aversion to asking directions and refusing to read instructions. Don't judge me. My typical approach leads to frustration and backtracking as I tediously pore over issue reports with upwards of...

You never know how well it can go +Franz Critchlow. I find that many times I gain more from the troubleshooting experience than simply going down the setup checklist.

The difference being that I learn from the experience +Grumpy Cat.

Well, it is unfortunate that the time has finally come for me to make this review. Let me preface this review by saying that I have been a fairly regular customer for over 10 years including a few years that we visited a minimum of once a week. The food and beverages were a great value, the food was consistently delicious and the staff was great. I assure you that the review to follow is not based on a small sample size. Kitchen Staff/Food: The entirety of the current kitchen staff either suffers from lack of concern for the food leaving the window or is simply incapable of cooking food properly and consistently. I have recently started requesting my fries without seasoning because I could no longer take the mounds they deemed necessary. We have received medium wings (their lowest heat) that have brought me to tears. I had a burger only a few weeks ago that was overcooked and tasted like they had not cleaned the grill in days. The boneless wings and chicken tenders that my wife orders every trip have been delivered so hard we were unable to pierce them with the forks and the sauce is different most trips. The ticket instructions given to the kitchen are commonly ignored and food arrives with ingredients specifically noted to be removed. Wait Staff: The wait staff is one of the few bright points in an otherly dismal review. Most of them are friendly and try to help out in any way possible. There are still a couple that have no ability to get an order correct and I find it completely incredible that they can still find the section they are covering. It's sad that the owners have run away so many great staff. Environment: While I am more than a supporter of small hole-in-the-wall businesses, Chicken Shak is likely to be the most disgusting establishment I've ever encountered. The grease-laden carpets that tend to grasp the chair legs with a force that should create envy in the duct tape community have the benefit of the perpetually darkened room so the clientele is unable to see on what they walk. The restroom doors are nearly unlockable despite a myriad of cheap replacement hardware they've used over the years. The front sign lit on fire over a month ago and has yet to be replaced. Price: Throughout the years I have witnessed price hikes that, while I was not fond of, typically made sense. I began coming here for the reasonably priced food and beverages yet I can no longer state that this applies. The last menu change brought with it an increase of up to 20% on many items. I realize that the cost of food increases but I would challenge that this percentage is necessary. Since the quality of the food has not improved, I find it questionable that they put the price on par with other restaurants in the area such as Chili's, O'Charley's and Applebee's. Clientele: This may have been the final nail in the coffin for us. There have been many situations (mostly with the same patron) that have discouraged us from returning. We have been forced to tolerate bared rears only inches from our table while we were eating, screaming of insults to fans of other teams almost to the point of blows and even the yelling of the entire dictionary of profanity throughout the restaurant despite the presence of children. I realize that this is intended to be a sports bar but there should be no reason for someone to behave so poorly he is just shy of swinging from the ceiling fans, smacking patrons and urinating in the corner. I have seen people removed from the premises of other bars for much less. We have stated our concerns to the staff who were ultimately told to leave him alone by the owners and managers. In conclusion, we may very well give Chicken Shak another opportunity in the future to redeem itself but I assure you that it will not be for many months.
