Be Still (And Shut Up)

God never promised life would be easy. He never said we would be free of oppression and trials and hardship. In fact, He said the exact opposite — there will be trials, there will be hardship, there will be persecution.

In those moments, we have a choice: Trust or complain.

The One Thing Prayer Always Changes

Even if prayer doesn’t change your circumstances, it will always, without fail, change you.

Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself.

In Matthew 5:44, Jesus says: “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

Chances are, you don’t have legit enemies in your life — people who are actively trying to bring about your demise — but it’s likely there are people you don’t get along with, or people who have hurt you, speak bad about you, or people you really, really, really dislike (because you know it’s sin to actually hate someone).

Pray for those people this week. Ask God to bless them, to draw them close to Him, to give them favor at work. Pray that they stay healthy, accomplish their goals, and experience peace.

Even if they or their circumstances don’t change this week, you will.

Prayer may not change your circumstances how you want them, but prayer always changes one thing: you.

Persevering Year

Perseverance is the tool by which our character is perfected and God's promises are released.

It teaches us how to be content no matter the circumstances, to trust God in the midst of hardship, to abide in the storm so you can know the one who calms the storms, and it forces us to grow.

And it’s only when you persevere that you receive His promises.

Fulfilling the Promise

God rarely fulfills His promises in our time-frame, but He always keeps His promises.

It may take a few months.
It may take a few years.
It may take a few decades.
It may not even be fulfilled in your lifetime.

But God always keeps His promises.

We just need to hold on long enough to see them come to pass.

Trusting God's Plan

And in a moment of complete and utter frustration, I remember yelling “God, why?!”

I would like to say I received an answer. That there was some deep lesson He was trying to teach me. Or that by making it happen this weekend, He was sparing me from going through this on a weekend I would have bigger plans.

All I got was a simple phrase. I know the plans I have for you.

Trusting God’s plan means believing everything that happens in life has a purpose.

10 Crazy Hard Teachings of Jesus

The prevailing image of Jesus in the minds of many believers and non-believers is what I call Hippie-Jesus: He’s chill, doesn’t care what you do, and would never, under any circumstances, make you feel guilty or confront you about a way of life that makes you happy.

Hippie-Jesus doesn’t tell you to stop sinning.
Hippie-Jesus doesn’t confront the issues in your life.
Hippie-Jesus ultimately just wants you to be happy, and would never tell you to give something up that makes you happy.

Who wouldn’t like this version of Jesus — the Jesus who says do what you want and still gives you a ticket to Heaven?

The real Jesus taught lessons most people would have (and still do) find incredibly hard to reconcile with the Hippie-Jesus version they love so much.

These difficult teachings of Jesus would cause many people today to hate Him — but they show God truly loves us.

*4 Reasons to Ditch #Resolutions  (and try these valuable habits instead) *

New Year’s Resolutions. Chances are, you made a few in the past week or two.

According to Harris Interactive, roughly 45% of Americans make resolutions at the start of every year — everything from losing weight, saving money, and spending more time with family, to living life to it’s fullest and finally stop smoking.

Resolutions are great ideas, but they don’t really work.

About 5 years ago, I stopped coming up with new year’s resolutions — and I’ll never go back.

The Right Place for Your Calling

Where you are right now is where you need to be in order to live out your calling.

It may not feel like it.
You may not understand it.
It may seem like it’s the exact opposite place you should be in order to fulfill God’s call on your life.

Just give it time.

#Superman Art. Awesome!

I found this print in an art gallery in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. For some reasons it mesmerized me. Anyone else think it's cool?
