“If we affirm one single moment, we thus affirm not only ourselves but all existence. For nothing is self-sufficient, neither in us ourselves nor in things; and if our soul has trembled with happiness and sounded like a harp string just once, all eternity was needed to produce this one event—and in this single moment of affirmation all eternity was called good, redeemed, justified, and affirmed.”

The Will To Power...an affirmation
Journal Entry: 6/4/18

The Chinese philosopher Confucius was once visiting a market with a disciple named Zilu. At a unit price of four ancient coins per kilo, Zilu bought two kilos of something from a vendor, and handed over eight coins to pay for it. But the vendor insisted two times four would be nine. The argument escalated to a point where Zilu said, ”Let’s go to a court, if the judge said it’s nine, I’d also give you my hat.” The vendor said, ”Since the great Confucius is here, why not ask him to do justice. If he said it’s eight, I’d cut off my hand.”

Upon hearing this, Confucius said to Zilu, ”I think it should be nine. Why don’t you give him one more coin and your hat.” Zilu reluctantly did as told, and the vendor happily went home.

Now Confucius said to Zilu, ”Here’s some money for your new hat. I said it’s nine since it’s not worth being right costing someone to cut off his hand.”

And so it is in life if we only could “SEE”.

Sense Beauty

It was good to be back on my morning walk. The warm moist air blowing from the West as I made my way from the mangroves, stepping into the light of the sea, and sensing the beauty of the day.

What is this sensing? How it comes and goes like the wind. It is like the wind?...one cannot see the wind, but I feel it on the drops of moisture of my skin. I see the ripples it forms on the ocean, and the white ghost as it’s wet air mixes and blends with the cool air of the sea. My visitor this morning.

I stop and suspend my thoughts. I let go for a moment those I care for and those who disturb my peace. For that brief moment, the sense of life, it comes...like the moist breeze gently stroking across my face. Just a sense that I am connected to all things and they are just as they should be...

Express Gratitude

I never pass a good shell without picking it up. There will always be a small one exploring with their bucket searching for treasures they always find. To see the delight on their face as I drop my gift in their bucket. And the mother always saying, ”What do you tell the nice man?” ”Thanks nice man.” No thank you little one for allowing me to see all your gifts you will give to life.

Experience Forgiveness

I can’t turn the wind back, just as I have no power to turn the clock back on my life. Life will trespass on my life just as I trespass on the lives of others.

I remember reading about St Francis in the book, Poor Man, Rich Man. In it there was a song, ‘Grab that crab, before that crab grabs you’—the crab of bitterness. It told of an experience of St Francis when he was bitter towards his friends because they did not faithfully follow his teaching. Resentment grew and spread Its roots through his body. It was in a brief encounter with himself that he made the distinction that his resentment was nothing more than his own fear. It was in that moment that he experienced his own forgiveness...just as my wind drifted more to the south, pushing me toward home and the Osprey I cannot see but hear its call.

There is this beautiful passage from, The Will to Power. It goes something like this:

“If we affirm one single moment, we thus affirm not only ourselves but all existence. For nothing is self-sufficient, neither in us ourselves nor in things; and if our soul has trembled with happiness and sounded like a harp string just once, all eternity was needed to produce this one event—and in this single moment of affirmation all eternity was called good, redeemed, justified, and affirmed.”

…the joyous affirmation of the play of the world and of the innocence of becoming, the affirmation of a world of signs without fault, without truth, and without origin which is offered to an active interpretation...just SEE...

Not half that bad on a good day...Doc
