Now that I'm home it's much more obvious and rampant than I expected. #Detroit
Not everyone is feeling welcomed in downtown Detroit as it undergoes a resurgence and redevelopment with shiny new facades.

"Republicans know all that. They've heard their party. They've heard everyone else, too — the condemnations of Trump have been a nonstop clamor, a roar that's drowned out all other political coverage. But Republican primary voters just don't give a shit. It's worse than that — they like that Trump pisses off the establishment. The backlash only makes him stronger."
And it's not Donald Trump who broke it.

The DNA of colonialism?

"1. ride in like the savior

2. bandy about words like equality, democracy, basic rights

3. mask the long-term profit motive (see 2 above)

4. justify the logic of partial dissemination as better than nothing

5. partner with local elites and vested interests

6. accuse the critics of ingratitude"
Today’s empires are born on the web, and exert tremendous power in the material world.

Sign of a good organization is public admission of what was done wrong.

Chronicles of Prydain was one of the first full book series I read, before Lord of the Rings. Still holds a special place in my heart.
It's final, no arguing allowed, no take-backs. (Please don't screw it up, Disney!)

Rachel Maddow on why Chicago happened, and why it was not an isolated incident.
Rachel Maddow explains the political science behind the classic strongman political tactic of ginning up political violence in order for a politician to present that violence as a problem that needs to be solved.

More on Facebook as Colonialism from Vox. Pull quote from Om Malik at Quartz:

Maybe I’m suspicious because my family has told me their personal story of the British Raj or maybe because I have read books that over and again detail how a commercial spearhead (The East India Company) came bearing gifts and made way for British imperialism. Regardless, I am suspicious of any for-profit company arguing its good intentions and its free gifts. Nothing—and I do mean nothing—in this life is free. You always pay a price.
Facebook board member Marc Andreessen sent a very bad tweet. Here's why it was so controversial.

"Today, it is clear that these emerging societies, namely China and India, are on the rise. So too—thanks to economic and political reforms, technological and scientific progress, and the advent of the connected world—are other great and rich cultures from the Middle East to Africa."
As demographics change, so does the definition of privilege.

Still not terrorists. "Each person arrested faces a federal felony charge of conspiracy to impede U.S. officers from 'discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation, or threats, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 372.'"
One person died and 8 were arrested, including militia leaders Ammon and Ryan Bundy, after the FBI and the Oregon State Police intercepted the group along Highway 395.

and i will be shocked as hell the day that they are officially labeled and charged as such. Again, more have been saved not by Afluenza but by "False Entitlement"
