What would life in The City be like without the Burrito Tunnel?  Eh +Aaron Strickland & +Luke Miller?
04.07.2007. The Alameda-Weehawken Burrito Tunnel. Who can imagine New York City without the Mission burrito? Like the Yankees, the Brooklyn Bridge or the bagel, the oversize burritos have become a New York institution. And yet it wasn't long ago that it was impossible to find a good burrito of ...

Haven't read yet, but a quick skim tells me this could be interesting.

The way you've been playing in casuals and the fact that this is a pair of 'home' courses for you?  I'm expecting your best tournament yet.  I'll be cheering for you.  Unless we're on the lead card together for round four.  Then screw you.

If you're a Pratchett fan, and never read Nation, then you should pick it up on your ebook vendor of choice right now for $2.  It may not be his best, but it is fairly enjoyable.

yeah. that one's more about ideas than a really a good story.  It's okay. I read all 3 in the series.  It's more of a "hey if we allow this thing and we've hamstringed it this way, lets see what our mostly 2 dimensional characters can get around it."  That being said, the ideas are a lot of fun!

Also, barely any humor in the long earth books.

*An open letter to the people on NCSU's brickyard this week who have 15 foot high photos of dead fetuses:*

I can totally understand that you want to stop abortions.  I get it.  But I want you to think about a few things.

What is your winning condition?  You must have one, right?  Let's pretend that you do and it's a good one.  Maybe you want all abortions to stop.  Sounds pretty straightforward.  How might that be accomplished?

Let's say you got Roe v. Wade overturned and all abortion clinics are closed and we treat all abortions as legal murder.  Congratulations.  Do you think that will mean that abortions will stop?  No?  Were there abortions before Roe v. Wade?  Have there been abortions since the dawn of time?  YES.  Your prize for getting abortions outlawed will mean that they will continue to happen and we'll end up with more women dying from unsanitary conditions, deformed/damaged babies, and healthy children raised by parent(s) who never wanted them.  Would you be proud of yourself?  So, maybe keeping the clinics open is a necessary evil.

But, you may ask, if that's actually the case, what would be a realistic winning condition?  I have wonderful news for you!  I have a best case scenario for your cause that makes both sides happy!  I know, I know, you don't believe me.  But, please hear me out (It's the least you could do after invading my campus and \ plastering swastikas & dead fetuses all over campus).

Your winning condition should be MINIMIZING abortions.  Now that you're looking at reality, you're probably wondering what that would look like.  It's actually pretty easy.  You see, babies (including unwanted babies) are the result of sex without the benefit of birth control.  Please unstop your ears, I'm sure you know about sex, so stop pretending it doesn't exist.

So, if we want to minimize abortions, we should .... (come on, you can do it)... provide more birth control!  Wonderful.  Now we can do something together.  Instead of attempting to scare college students with horrible photos taken out of context and linked with Nazis, we could educate them about the birds and the bees and give them birth control!  As a side benefit, instead of people protesting you, you'll be greeted by smiles! and probably even hugs!

Thank you for listening to me this long. I'm proud of you.  Now you have a clear way to actually make a difference in the real world.  You can realistically stop many abortions by preventing the root cause: poorly planned sex.

If you would like an actionable suggestion, I would take all the money you planned on spending on new signs, preachers, and graphic designers to create your materials and buy boxes and boxes of condoms and information on other options.  Get good ones, not the cheap kind.  As a bonus, I'll totally help you hand them out on the brickyard.  Let me know, I'd be happy to help you minimize unwanted pregnancies by offering sexually active students ways to prevent them.

Thanks for your time and good luck on making a difference!

Love,

You should totally post it on Facebook, comment war or not.  I've got a veteran buddy who just came out as a Secular Humanist after retiring.  Watching him shatter quite a few people's conceptions of what it takes to be a good person/patriot/soldier/American/etc has been really interesting.  People's echo chambers (on both sides of these issues) are so strong the only way real communication happens is between people who already have a reason to trust and/or listen to one another.
