To skeuomorph or not to skeuomorph, that is the question,
Whether 'tis nobler in the app to suffer
The slings and arrows of outraged users
Or to take Illustrator against  a sea of buttons
And by redesigning beautify them.

Google is tinkering with the way Gmail works again.

On the one hand, they're making images visible by default, which will help email marketers ensure that they're efforts are displayed the way they're intended to be seen.

On the other hand, they're hiding some meta-data, which will make it harder to do sophisticated customization.

On balance, I think these changes are good for marketers and very good for users.

Back in 1990, in an awesome piece for The New Yorker, author Ian Frazier told the—shall we say—little-known story of Wile E. Coyote's endless legal battles with the Acme Company. Now, the tale of Coyote's legal tribulations, suing Acme for grievous personal injury and catastrophic product malfunction, has been designed and republished by Michael Bierut of Pentagram, featuring original diagrams by Daniel Weil.

#NYTimes new design is quite nice. Particularly entire story in one screen. Only criticism: On the desktop, home page too crowded, text too small.

Tell me again why Conan Doyle's descendants think they should get any money for his hundred year old work? #copyright

Chief Judge Rubén Castillo of the United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois has ruled that the characters and story lines used in 50 Sherlock Holmes texts published by Arthur Conan Doyle before Jan. 1, 1923 'are no longer covered by United States copyright law and can be freely used by creators without paying any licensing fee to the Conan Doyle estate,' reports The New York Times.
