Aesthetically interesting yet simple and sophisticated, our Seat Belt Chair is a Phillips favorite! Tempting the interaction of passersby, people are amazed at how comfortable it really is. Which often solicits the question, "What is it made of?"
Seat belts of course! Cotton canvas seat belt material is weaved over a wood and metal frame which gives it an attractive fishtail illusion. It's no wonder that the overall design caught everyone’s attention at the event. For more information on Design on a Dime, visit this link: www.housingworks.org/events/design-on-a-dime/

Jason Phillips has gained international recognition in the furniture industry. A designer and executive at his family's company, Phillips Collection, he has been published in dozens of design and lifestyle magazines as well as hundreds of blogs. It seems people appreciate his fresh take on contemporary design and the scope of his portfolio. “I am Vice President and Creative Director at our family’s furniture company, Phillips Collection, as well as running my own brand, Jason Phillips Design. The former takes up most of my time but I have commitments through Jason Phillips Design to travel to design centers around the country and speak on panels regarding interior design. It is hard work and if I took the time to stop and consider things, I might not be able to get my engine back in gear!”
Noteworthy new designs include the spaghetti-like Continuum Table, which was inspired by models of the space-time-continuum where folds in space and time are created through invisible networks. Al Dente is a decidedly different take on fluidity; relying on rigid rods that explore a more fractal sense of space and density. These concepts are in production and will be introduced later this year.
Most recently, Jason was awarded the inaugural INSPIREDESIGN Design Excellence Award. He was honored at the 21st Annual ARTS Awards as Product Designer of the Year, the youngest ever recipient of this prestigious award. In late 2009 he won the VERANDA magazine’s inaugural ‘The Art of Design’ Award for his body of work in the ‘Trade Secrets’ category, which has led to a whirlwind of media attention.
“I take all of this success with a lot of humility,” Jason remarks. “I’m still Jason, with the same interests as others my age. I just happen to be extremely motivated and have been fortunate in my life to be able to extrapolate on the things that matter to me.”
You can find Jason’s work through Phillips Collection dealers around the world.
