Many of my friends know that Purple Rain is my favorite album of all time. Not to mention Prince's concert at Magness Arena is one of my all time favorite concerts. Very sad today.
The original concert recording used on Purple Rain:

Something to geek-out about. And possibly fear? Netflix’s banners are made sans-designers. As my friend Jessyel says, "Algorithms are quickly replacing us." http://techblog.netflix.com/2016/03/extracting-image-metadata-at-scale.html

We have a collection of nearly two million images that play very prominent roles in helping members pick what to watch. This blog describes how we use computer vision algorithms to address the challenges of focal point, text placement and image clustering at a large scale. Focal point ...

the last Martin Parr video I posted, a new video started (below), and I was struck by Val Williams’ quote about Martin’s background. I felt like it could have been a quote about MY background. Does this description fit any of you as well?

“It’s really interesting when you look at photographers backgrounds… They were often people who maybe had not terribly unhappy childhoods, but often quite dull ones where they felt quite disassociated from other people. And they often didn’t do very well academically. A lot of photographers didn’t do very well academically at all. So they became these kind of ‘lost people,’ and I think the act of taking photographs… it distances you from the world because partly you’ve got an excuse for being there because you’re the photographer, and partly because the camera is an interface or a barrier or a gateway to the rest of the world….”

Leica Galleries donate $25k in profits from the Lenny Kravitz "FLASH" exhibition to "100Cameras," which empowers children by teaching them to share their perspectives through photography.

It's also enough to by ONE child a Lenny Kravitz "Correspondent" model Leica!!! In all seriousness, it's pretty cool that Leica and Kravitz are supporting this charity. Plus I have more respect for the faux patina of the "Correspondent" after hearing Lenny talk about his father's worn Leica, and how the custom model is a tribute to his dad. A pretty cool tribute IMHO.

"Street photography in Britain is going though a very vibrant period, but it has a problem with the fine art world. You won't often see it in the galleries. It's almost as if it's seen as too street-level, too authentic in some way."
