Wow! What wonderful light we had tonight on the photo safari!
Tomorrow is our last day as a group, but the shots have been amazing so far. Check my website for details on my upcoming photo trips and instructional tours.

Slow moving clouds and a daydream over Colorado National Monument.

I used a Singh-Ray 15-stop ND filter to get an exposure time of 281 seconds.

I'm testing the Nikon 200-500 f/5.6E AFS VR zoom Nikkor with the new Nikon D500 in preparation for my South Texas Birding safari next month. On the Nikon D500, it's a very nice rig, especially considering the price and overall versatility. The detail resolution and bokeh don't match up to the Nikon 500mm f/4 VR, but then again, that's an $8000 lens... Moreover, the size, weight, and ability to zoom will trump those small differences in image quality most of the time.

Nikon 500mm backyard shootout!
Can a $1400 zoom compete with an $8000 prime? #Nikkor #Nikon

I'm useing a 55 -200 f4 most of the time. I am looking for a better lens. But that 500 for $8000. Really the only people I can see useing that. Are folks like you or Moose Peterson.
The zoom , for me sounds nice.
How ever a new problem for me, I can not hold the camera still. No matter what, laying on the sidewalk, elbows on the sidewalk, camera against my face. You would think I was in a earthquake. I do have a monopod and a tripod. But I am think about one of the monopods with three small feet.
The review of both lens totally awesome .

Point Arena Lighthouse

Sometimes, it's just too windy to do a proper long exposure and get a sharp shot... the 25+ MPH wind was blowing directly into our cameras when we arrived at this location on my Sonoma Photo Safari.

In order to get the long-exposure look (soft water), I made some suggestions to the group for some other in-camera techniques that we could use to simulate a long exposure without filters.

Learn these techniques and more in my complete guide to creative long exposure photography, Stretching Time.

We're having a good time photographing the Sonoma Coast!
Tonight we went to Goat Rock State Beach for sunset, and we experimented with long exposures of the surf...

The fun continues tomorrow.

I love this lens! Saving up for a D500, using D300s currently. Makes sense no?

I just love how the junipers are twisted amongst the rock formations in Monument Valley!

My sales representative, Bill, was extremely knowledgeable about all the features of the vehicles my wife and I were interested in. There was no pressure on us whatsoever. Bill made sure that I knew _everything_ about my new Escape before I drove it off the lot.
