I also got 10/20.

The Starbucks point process holds a surprisingly large amount of geographical information.  (That said, I only scored 10/20, though many of my mistakes were obvious in retrospect.)

Unbelievably awesome shot of espresso. Excellent cappuccino. Will be back tomorrow!

The espresso is up to snuff. Shot was pleasantly ristretto, cappuccino was rich with good microfoam.

The front door had a small sign taped to it admonishing patrons from using their laptops... and yet orders are placed by a clerk using an iPad seated in a custom wooden rack. Hipster and somehow anti-hipster!

From a "guess the place" thread +Terence Tao started, +Bob Felderman recommended this site.  I got 10084 points.  Not sure if good or bad.  Probably just average.

Readable over just a cup of coffee.
The human species' vexing combination of "sin" and "virtue" may be better explained by the two extreme evolutionary forces that created us.

The Standard is very snazzy and probably too hip for me. The free wifi is terrible, but free. Room is cozy but nice. Bathroom has one of those "is this really the shower??" configurations.

The room service menu is good, and the food itself is pretty awesome.

The view (of the Hudson, including Lady Liberty and the downtown skyline) from the room is nice, too.

One of the boys is up late tonight, super wound up and frustrated that he can't get to sleep, no matter what he does. I've been meting out relaxation techniques and ways to occupy the mind every 20 minutes for about 2 hours now.

If he comes out one more time, so help me, I'm going to teach him visualize the Flame and the Void.

Story
Introduction
I'm a creature of the early 1970s from the San Francisco Bay area.  I am unbeliebably lucky to be married to my high school sweetheart, since we graduated from UC Davis.  We used to be cat people, but somehow we're now dog people.  With the help of Science!, we ended up with 3 kids all of a sudden, and they're getting older at a rate that doesn't jive with my internal chronometer.

Professionally, I've worked at a university library, an internet company, a Silicon Valley startup, on a NASA science mission, and most recently at Google.

My hobbies include astronomy, long-term thinking and existential risk, video games and programming, fountain pens, and other stuff to boot.

Average food, unremarkable eggs Benedict, rude and poor service, unclean and cramped tables inside.

Reasonably good sparkling wines and a couple good pinots. Tasting flights at the seated outdoor area not cheap -- but our server was quite generous with his pours, and the views of the grounds were fantastic. Overall, this place is really marred by being a tourist bus destination. Nothing about this place is intimate. Unfortunately, it's hard to find a good experience at a sparkling wine house. There are a couple crappy places, but at least is ok.

One of the best brunches my wife and I have ever had. Coffee was poured into generous mugs, and we had them served with their signature small donuts, which were delivered fresh out of the frier, coated in sugar, and absolutely delicious. The eggs benedict (made vegetarian by substituting avocado for the meat) were by themselves worth the trip, and served alongside a thick plank of hasbrowns: the kind that are finely shaved, golden-crispy outside and steamy-soft inside. Fantastic, fantastic place.

Recommended by a neighbor, and I'm very glad they did. My wife and I went for lunch. The grounds, the interior decor, and the meal were all fantastic. The made-to-order mozzarella appetizer was fantastic. The ravioli were made from fresh pasta, and delicious. Cocktails were excellent and delicious. The butterscotch dessert was the other highlight -- nearly rivaling the mozzarella. Service was friendly and very comfortable. This is a place we're going to be recommending to our friends.

Great place, recommended by someone in the family. This was my wife's second time (first time she went with some girlfriends), and my first. People were spunky, very welcoming -- even got to see the owner and winemaker. Lots of couples, mostly bay area locals, everyone was very happy and friendly. The grounds were fantastic, meticulously clean. The wines themselves are delicious, and a great value. My wife says that the wines they make in her favorite styles are delicious, and even the wines they make in styles she usually doesn't enjoy are great, too. Pourings are educational and generous. We will be back.

Went on a Saturday night for a late dinner. This feels like a place that's about 5 years past its prime. The hosts and service are struggling. There are a couple tasty items -- but the whole menu is full of items that were trendy when Obama and McCain were on the campaign trail. Some of the dishes were just plain poor, like the dressing-soaked pear salad, which had scarcely any pear or candied nuts. Cocktails were poorly done as well. This place needs a menu refresh and to hire some kitchen talent.

Solid, surprisingly comfy place in Napa, about a block from the freeway, and a couple miles up the road from the Sonoma freeway, as well. Parking was plentiful, the grounds were very well-kept. The structure and decor were cute, reminding my wife and I of a small city hotel. Cookies and coffee were served in the afternoon, and breakfast in the morning. We stayed for one night only -- which some hotels do not allow. The bed in the room seemed on the small side, and our room faced the freeway onramp which was a block away, which created road noise. An AC unit was provided which provided plenty of white noise. Overall, a good experience.
