It’s the 4th of July. Exactly sixteen years ago today the Mars Pathfinder landed to a media fanfare and began to transmit data back to Earth. Days later and the flow of information and images was interrupted by a series of total systems resets. How this problem was a) diagnosed and b) resolved still makes for a fascinating tale for software engineers.
At at any rate: multithreading, concurrency, parallelism-- even the NASA software engineers don't understand it, as evidenced by this post! So don't feel bad! :-)~

So, on craigslist, it looks like they strip EXIF data now. I was thinking about how I try not to post too much contact info on craigslist (I'll put cross streets and use my google voice number), but it occurred to me that my cell phone might be dropping a "geo tag" in EXIF data. Sure enough, if I look at the photos properties on the phone, you can pinpoint the photo location to my exact address.
However, once the picture is sent to craigslist, the geo tag is stripped. That is, if this tool is telling the right things:
