+Vic Gundotra +Google Play Music needs a family plan. My wife should be able to listen to my music collection while I'm at work without me needing to add my Google profile onto her phone. It messes up her contact profile and notifications.

LOL just finished watching World War Z (meh) and just saw Peter Capaldi credited as W.H.O. Doctor. I didn't even think of that when I saw him. I recognized him just didn't get the joke:)

Last week I picked up a open box, but never used #chromecast  device.  (Ironically I bought it used the same day that Google announced that the devices would be available within Canada).  I was excited to get the device home and give it a test, and as optimistic as I was about the Chromecast, I wasn't expecting it to work so easily and so perfectly.  I already have a Sony Google TV set top box (GS7) and have been using that for about 18 months and it has been central to my life as a cord cutter.   We use Youtube, Netflix, Google Play Movies and Plex to watch shows/movies on our television, and I had thought that I might get the chromecast to play with, and maybe use it for a second TV in the bedroom.

In the week that I've had the Chromecast, I haven't turned the GoogleTV on once.   Right now, it works perfectly for all of the systems that we use at home, with the possible exception of using UnblockUS to get the US or UK Netflix feed.  I haven't tried out changing my router DNS settings yet because I haven't had the need to use the US Netflix feed right yet.

As far as the Chromecast goes, the speed is absolutely fine, it works pretty much out of the box once you set the network up, across my phone, my wife's phone, the chromebook, and my desktop PC.  The little goofy problems that I had with the GoogleTV system (gg Honeycomb Android) like GoogleMusic not playing playlists after the first song, or the YouTube player crashing reliably on Day9's YouTube channel.   The video quality is great, and I would love to see apps like netflix and plex add in queuing the same as exists in YouTube.

I did have a problem with the Chromecast rebooting, and I diagnosed it as overheating.  I have the unit plugged into the GoogleTV's HDMI pass through (I use the Google TV's optical audio out to my sound bar) and both were running hot while I was using it for extended durations.   I then used the HDMI extender cable to create distance between the two units and have seen no problem since.

With the Google TV box, I ended up using a wired connection to it, because it seemed to have intermittent Wifi stability issues, and I have experienced no such issues at all with the Chromecast, which is interesting as it's in the same physical space as the Sony unit.

At this point, I'm still hopeful for a Nexus based TV box, with a current android OS on it, but I think that if it never happens, and if GoogleTV dies the slow painful death of manufacturer abandonment that I've experienced, I can rest easy knowing that the Chromecast will apparently provide me with the services with ease and style.

If you use any of the online video services that I've mentioned, I think this $40 dollar device is absolutely 100% worth having.  I'm likely to pick up another when we get a second TV, and could easily be convinced to get a third to take with us when we travel.  Run, don't walk and get one.

to be honest, I'm still waiting for what I would consider a proper GoogleTV box.   My sony is a somewhat ok unit, with a killer remote that I don't want to do without.   Bluetooth remotes are where it's at.  IR can die anytime now as far as I'm concerned.   (I have a fat cat that often blocks my IR line of site)

I owned the original Palm 1000, picked it up at Software City very shortly after it was released. I got the M500 a few years later. Was always a fan of the palm OS. I wish they could have solidified their hold on the market and kept themselves afloat.

It's 1996. You might have a cellphone, but it doesn't do much more than make phone calls. You might have a laptop, but it's likely too heavy to carry

The grilled chicken crepe wrap is amazing. We've been living in Ajax for about 7 months and this is the first place that we feel like we can be proud to be regulars at. I highly recommend giving this small shop a try.

Second time here. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but there is something very comfortable about the atmosphere. The staff is very nice and courteous. I predict the will be a third visit, followed by a fourth.

Stopped by on my second night in Toronto when I saw their dinner special. Food was very well prepared. I had the wonton soup, mango salad, spring roll and crispy beef. The staff was pleasant and quick. Would definitely go back, probably next week with my wife :-)

A great 'all you can eat' sushi restaurant. There are two different menus and prices, one for lunch and the bigger menu and more expensive evening menu. It isn't the best sushi that I have had, but for value it far surpasses any place I've been to in Halifax.

Was walking down Yonge street, looking for something to eat that caught my eye. With a quirky name and interesting decor I decided to give it a try. Has a slightly old school diner feel to it, but not pure 50s style. Wait staff was ok, that mix of efficient and playful gruffness that made me laugh. I ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese (grilled cheese with mac n cheese and meatloaf) which was really exceptional. I would definitely come back for this sandwich alone.
