Interested in short stories? Here's an option -- local writers, an independent press, and an eclectic assortment of content. I wrote a story for the collection, and I edited the volume.

My promotion to management this week prompts reflection on how people do or don't successfully grow a career.
Yet a 14-year journey from part-time secretary to department manager in the same large organization isn't a small thing. As I look at where I'm at right now, I can share several valuable lessons for early-career professionals plotting their own long-term trajectories.

Latest blog post ...
Religiosity, when channeled through institutions that have had millennia to develop, is mostly benign. Religiosity, divorced of anchor institutions and self-directed through political channels, is harder to manage. Harder to mediate.

By popular demand (i.e., Abbi), I present a brief synopsis of why some people like Ron Paul.

Some thoughts ...
Accept the consequences of what you do, and what you don't do, and stop waiting for the magic to start.

Still waiting for a magical bulletin to help me transfer to a custom URL that doesn't consist of 21 numbers. Looking at you, +Google. My odds of using G+ as a regular platform are strongly correlated to my ability to get a simple, straightforward name.

A philosopher is trained in logic, taxonomy and metaphysics. We seek the assumption behind the question, and we try to both distill individual points into autonomous data points, and then reintegrate them into a coherent whole. We understand which conclusions are valid and which aren’t by virtue of experience in both formal and informal logic. In short: A philosopher knows how to think.

Are you a writer or editor? If you are, then you might find my collected list of (mis)usage to be of interest.
As an editor, I come across a lot of freelancer work product. Much of it is good. Some of it is atrocious. Very little is pristine. Over the years, I've collected some notes on the most common word-usage problems I've seen.

I don't know if it was the stimulant in those cold pills or what, but I despite the sniffles I got a bunch of stuff knocked off my to-do list. Including tasks that have been rolling around for years.
