What a nice little old-brick-building-plus-iron-work-plus-grass-and-trees-thing in Portland.

A rather passionate and eloquent speech about domestic violence and PTSD in soldiers.

In-depth talk with the two big brains behind my favorite news filtered app: Prismatic

I love +Prismatic  . Why? Because I trained it to bring me tech news and that's exactly what it brings. Very filtered, fast, and awesome news. But Prismatic is just getting started so I sat down with two co-founders, +Bradford Cross CEO and +Aria Haghighi CTO, and learned why they are able to hire and keep so many machine learning experts. Get Prismatic at http://getprismatic.com (iOS or web only right now, but Android coming soon).

The morning bun is stellar -- crispy and light, it really raises your expectations of that old standby.

Cappuccino foam was not too dry and not too thin.

While I was at Google I/O, asked if I could visit the plant where Google Glass gets assembled, expecting the answer to be "no" or some variant of negative.

The answer instead was -- "Nobody has asked before.  Let me see what I can do to make that happen.  You really look like you're into the tech, and I don't see why not."

Why don't more companies and people respond that way?  It's the heart of all geeks -- we want to know how things work, hack on them, and why things are the way they are.

So, I went home to Austin thinking that would be that.. but no!  Lo, in my email inbox this morning is a note saying that they haven't forgotten my request, and are actively working on letting me see what goes into making Glass.

That kicks butt in so many ways.

Introduction
Jason Dusek is a systems engineer with experience delivering scalable cluster automation using Bash, Haskell, Ruby and a broad array of UNIX tools.

Many years ago, Jason worked in the restaurant industry, where he learned to appreciate the skill, knowledge and hard work that goes in to fine food.

When he entered college, Jason planned to study folklore and foreign languages. In high school, he took Chinese and German and in later years explored a number of other languages; but the only language he speaks with any fluency is English.
