There's a 1950's sci-fi movie starring Allison Hayes entitled "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman," in which a literally larger than life woman stomps through town in search of her unfaithful husband, wreaking all manner of destruction along the way.

This outlandish scenario was the first thing that came to mind when I saw with my own eyes the 45-foot-high ballerina seated in Rockefeller Plaza. Whatever anxiety I felt at the idea that she might break free of her restraints and start smashing things was quickly alleviated once I realized how calm and peaceful the ballerina appears. Oh, I should probably mention that this so-called "Seated Ballerina" is a balloon. Actually: an inflatable nylon sculpture.

Like I said, a balloon.

Created by pop artist Jeff Koons, the Seated Ballerina is meant to evoke a sense of hope in all who view her. I have no idea how successfully Koons' installation is accomplishing that with the general public, but I like it. Plus, it's raising money for the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. Even better.

The Seated Ballerina will only be in town for a few more weeks, so go check her out before it's too late. It's not like I normally spend a lot of time around Rockefeller Center, but thanks to +MadHatters NYC I was inspired to elbow my way through packs of tourists just to see some art. Lynn and Justin, you're two of the coolest people I've never met.

Snowfall is now a distant memory, as spring has made its triumphant return to NYC, sprinkling the city's steel and concrete framework with lovely pastel adornments. It doesn't get much better than this. Until autumn comes around and I say pretty much the same thing again.

I love rainy/foggy/cloudy days in NYC. Most people don’t enjoy dreary weather conditions but I see it as an opportunity to experience the city with an extra layer of visual dynamism. It never gets old.

I get a lot of questions about my favorite camera for street photography, which happens to be the Fujifilm X70. It's plenty capable and I always have it with me. You can see a brief selection of my work with the X70 in the video below. If you are so inclined, please share and subscribe to my Youtube channel (it's still relatively new but I'm working on future content).

Also, I tend to post far more frequently on Instagram than I do on G+, so come follow me on IG: @jdevaunphotography
