So this is this year's loot for the family we adopted this Christmas. Gifts for a single mother with three kiddos.

Unfortunately, +Rick Boles, +Brandi Boles, +Tiffany McClung, +Dylan McClung, and +Josh Close and his wife couldn't be in the picture. But they contributed big time.

Thanks to all my wonderful friends who step up to the plate every year, and who show their true colors by helping their community.

look what my awesome friends and family did for a family in need this year for Christmas.  they stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park.

there are around 60 gifts, plus over $100 in gift cards.  both parents and all 4 kids of the receiving family are all getting some great gifts.

makes my heart feel good to see the people i care about do such good things for others; selfless things for others.  wonderful Christmas spirit.  no organizations.  no church.  no charities.  just people getting together and helping out.

we all got together and pitched in, and then had a party where we wrapped all of the gifts, which made for a great evening.

thanks to +Christina Close +Michael Martin +brandy martin +Steffanie Vincent +Brandi Boles +Rick Boles +Tanner Naeher +Gary Beckmann +Tiffany McClung Dylan McClung , and to my parents.

I got a 3-day pass to this place in order to try it out. It is not a bad gym. But for the amount of money invested, it should be much better. To summarize the place, if a car dealership, a Starbucks, and a gym all had a baby together, it would be LA Fitness. They have a good amount of equipment here. There are plenty of squat racks, but not enough benches. They do have multiple cable pin-loaded machines, but they are spread across the facility, which means a possible 3-5 minute walk from one piece of equipment to another. Their dumbbells only go up to 100lbs, which is a disappointment for a gym this size, but the dumbbells they do have are very nice. They do have the "spot assist" benches, but they have not been maintained well, and the arms do not go back to their original positions once you unrack the weight. They have a plethora of pin-loaded machines. Also, the child care center looks very nice. I would say that the worst part of this gym is the design. All of the free-weight is in the main area downstairs, barring their large combo pin-loaded machine (a big combination of cables for pull-downs, rows, bis and tris...). This means that if you want to add a pin-loaded machine into your work out, you have to walk upstairs to get to it, and then back downstairs (a big deal on leg day). Imagine doing squats, and then walking upstairs to do some leg extensions on a pin loaded machine, only to find that 2 guys are already using it. You had to walk all of the way upstairs, and across the gym, just to find out that the equipment you want to use is taken. Their upstairs area is disconnected as well. They have an open area for abs and medicine ball work, but it is honestly too large. And it is on the other side of the upstairs area as the pin-loaded circuit and a majority of the cardio. This means that the cardio they have upstairs is spread around sporadically. It would make much more sense to have the cardio completely in one area/side, and the ab area and pin-loaded circuit on the other side. Lastly, the restrooms are very badly designed. The sinks are between the lockers and the showers/toilets. This means that guys get in the shower, and then walk across the sink area soaking wet, into the locker area. So any time you walk into the restroom, it looks as though a pack of shaggy dogs tracked across the tile. Obviously, the showers should've been next to the lockers. Again, this is not a bad gym, and is worth the money. But, for the amount of money tied into it, some simple ergonomics and planning could improve it. Unfortunately, a lot of the bad design was done when they constructed the building, and LA Fitness has to live with it.

Holly from patient billing was not helpful with us at all. We got a bill saying our son wasn't covered by insurance, so we called and called this place, and never got an answer. We were always forwarded to a chick named 'Holly' in patient billing, and never heard from her after leaving numerous messages. Fortunately, our insurance company (BCBS) got things settled. So if you have a baby here, you need to go ahead and try to get them insurance preemptively, before they are even born. That all being said, the doctors and staff are great. Billing department is not good.

this is a very nice sushi place. the food is great. the atmosphere is very nice. and the wait-staff has always been on point. they have a very well priced happy hour, which is a heavy discount on most of their sushi rolls, as well as their drinks. obvious pros: their sushi rolls are large. they aren't chump sized rolls. staff is friendly and attentive. prices are right. cons: they can get crowded soon, as there isn't much seating. there doesn't seem to be much capacity to handle large groups. if you go during a busy dinnertime, the wait-time for your food could be a little above average. but i cannot fault the food by any means.

we always have a fantastic time when we come here. last time, my wife and i split the peppercorn filet, the mashed potatoes, and the blue cheese wedge salad. it was all very, very good. the steak was absolutely amazing. we like the atmosphere here. the service is top notch. the cocktails are done well, and really aren't too horribly overpriced. i'm not a big fan of the fact that it is smoking in the bar, but that can be overlooked. the ventilation could be a little better, as you're still going to walk out of there smelling like a butt, but you know what you're getting into when you walk in.

I had a very unfortunate experience with Forest Lumber in Norman. I ordered a very large Glulam beam that they in turn special ordered from someone else (completely fine). I ordered it such that it would arrive a week earlier than I really needed it (2 weeks before the date the contractors were scheduled to use the beam). The beam arrived after a week, but alas, I was told it was broken and cracked in shipping, and that they would have to order another. The second beam was to arrive a week later (on a Wednesday). Fortunately, I already got my contractor to agree to move the work date back one day (to Thursday). The beam didn't arrive on that Wednesday at Forest. I got a call saying it would be in some time Thursday, and they would get it shipped out as soon as they got it. So I have my guys start prepping Thursday morning. Talk to Forest Lumber at 9:30ish. They say that it should be in their warehouse around noon, and to expect the beam around 12:30. Then, I get a call at 11:30 saying that it's not going to arrive until around 2-2:30. Finally, at 4:30pm, the beam arrives. I had guys sitting on their hands all day waiting for this thing. They were pissed too. They were all strung along by this company. They lost a lot of money due to the delays of Forest Lumber. Despite repeated assurances that the beam would arrive earlier in the day, and my best efforts to even have it delivered a week early, Forest was still behind. Why was it not delivered at noon when they got it? Because I was last on the list. I'm not a big name contractor; I'm just an individual homeowner. So I got bumped, even though they were already a week-and-a-day behind on my delivery. When asked how they could make it right with me, I was offered a discount on future purchases. No refund on my delivery charge. No nothing. I was told [sic] "it is what it is", and that there is nothing that they could do. The kid at the front desk was very helpful. It wasn't his fault that the management and schedulers blatantly have no respect for the individual homeowner. The beam is actually in great shape. But I could've ordered through another company, who would've gotten the beam from the same builder in the first place, and probably gotten it on (or ahead of) time. My home is 2 miles away from Forest Lumber. They could've delivered my lumber in 15 minutes, or on the way to another site. Instead, I had to wait all day. There's no owner's name listed on the website. There's no way to let them know how badly they represented themselves as a business. I would've preferred to go that route. But since they don't provide any way for me to express to them the catastrophe that was the delivery, this is the next best method. I will avoid Forest as much as possible.

great. the food and drinks are wonderful. they pour cocktails strong, which is good for what they cost (a double crown and coke costs $13, fyi). we really like the appetizers. the calamari is massive, as are the mozzarella sticks. the lasagne is really good, but huge. you can definitely split it between two people. service is always top notch. they almost have too many people on staff, as there are always a few waiters/waitresses without sections.

these burgers are good, and the fries are pretty good (a little greasy), but there is no reason to charge $6+ for a smashed burger and $3 for fries. it is hard to walk out of this place for less than $10, which is idiotic when talking about a burger and fries. go down the street and go to either: rusty's frozen custard (same kind of burgers, but around 20% less money, with really good shoestring fries), or earl's (burger and fries is around $7, so not too much cheaper, but every bit as good). heck, chili's burgers are just as good and are the same price, and you get someone to come to your table and fill your drinks up too. in the end, five guys is overhyped; it's not worth the money. also, make sure no one you're eating with has a peanut allergy, because they only use peanut oil at five guys.
