There are certain inevitabilities out there; life, love, food, U2 being self-righteous, death and the byproduct of a Crossfit workout being an incessant need to talk about the workout. I respect those inevitabilities just as I understand the reader’s need…

I was never that big of a David Bowie fan, I’ll admit it. He made twenty-nine solo albums, of which I own none. Instead I own a greatest hits collection (ChangesBowie) that I bought secondhand at Harvest Records last year. From that confession (or…

Look, I think what’s going on in Oregon is dumb. With that being said, saying that the “militia” hiding out in the bird sanctuary should be treated just as poorly as the protesters in Baltimore or Ferguson is a bad idea. The police reaction in those…

In honor of the whole Small Business Saturday (brought to you by American Express)™ I decided to visit the local record store in Waynesville. It was a big, sprawling chaotically laid-out store that reminded me of the late 90s record stores that sold more…

It’s a hell of a thing, getting past whatever semblance of youth that I have and moving towards the soul-crushing inevitability that is middle-age (or whatever that time in a person’s late thirties are when the realize that all their rowdy friends have…

After lunch today I stopped at the gas station near my house. As I waited in line to make my purchase I found myself right in the middle of Powerball fever. People were lined up three deep for their chance at a billion dollars. There were smiles, talk of…

It’s the end of the year. My first inclination is to say that this has been a terrible year, and that if you ranked all of my prior years 2015 would be a lot closer to the bottom than the top. That’s all true, but I’m going to find the positive in this…

I can’t help it, I am in love with the music of William Onyeabor. You should also pine for the man who tickles the ivories, and here’s why.

Here’s an idea: instead of everyone sharing and posting the same image of the person who senselessly slaughtered a group of worshipers in Charleston last night, let’s do our best to remember and honor those who lost their lives.

My wife and I were having trouble finding a home insurance policy that had flood insurance included. After some phone calls and looking around Anthony and his staff gave us a great deal and saved us a few hundred dollars a month. The entire staff was courteous and helpful, and one lady was so thankful for our business that she even hugged me. She smelled nice also. I think her name was Gretta. All in all ISA is a great business full of good people who are more than willing to go that extra mile to help out their customers, even when they just need a hug.
