This is so beautiful, I couldn't resist backing it. Makes me want to run a Pathfinder game set in Edo period Japan. Who knows, maybe someday...

Check out this gorgeous map project on Kickstarter. Josephe Vandel, the cartographer, created the beautiful DeRust overland style for the Cartgrapher's Annual Vol 7.
Cartographic representations of Edo period Japan created with a combination of traditional and digital techniques.

I know pathfinder has a lot of creatures specifically of Japanese origin and legend. You could always fudge rules from 3rd OA as well.

The reconstruction illustrations of Kilchurn Castle and Glenbuchat Castle by +Bob Marshall are beyond awesome. Looking at them makes me want to dive right back into D&D or Pathfinder!  Or even a medieval fantasy Fate Core game!  (I just started a Star Trek game with Fate Core and I'm seriously digging the Fate Core rules.)

I know he did these over two years ago, but when they're this good, it's worth re-posting. Now I have to do some digging and see if he's illustrated any other castles...

That is very cool.  I always loved those sorts of cut-away pictures.

Fate Core seems like it would be a good match for Trek.  Also for medieval fantasy.  I have the beginnings of a magic system based loosely on D&D wizards (or at least on the schools of magic, which I always liked more than the vancian casting).  Though, I think for the stuff I like (insane, gonzo, anything goes kitchen sink settings with catgirl mech pilots adventuring with elven wizards and sapient robots), FAE is an even better match.  You pretty much have to play those settings loose, or go insane with a set of rules for everything.

Take a first look at Project Christine: Razer's new, wild vision for modular gaming PCs: http://cnet.co/1cCJBrl

That is...eerily similar to Congruence Modulo, a modular computer concept that I thought of a while back.  It didn't have that central backbone though--the modules stacked atop each other like Lego blocks, and communicated via interfaces built into the "studs" and "tubes".  Still a cool idea.  I like that little screen.

This is great news! All of the other shows we watch have been put on hiatus, so it's a nice holiday surprise to discover that we can at least keep watching The Blacklist through the winter. And I'd be surprised if the end of this season's The Voice will hurt The Blacklist's ratings; between DVRing shows (as we do) and The Blacklist's own strengths (<cough> James Spader <cough>), I'm betting (and hoping) it prevails.
Plus: Victor Garber will play papa to Ichabod Crane, a possible Wolfman at NBC, and Young Justice on The CW?

This looks awesome.  https://onlycoin.com/?referral=uHETqdvp

Thanks to +Fred Hicks for the original referral. (I ordered one using his referral link, so I don't feel bad putting my own referral link up there.)

I do share some of the same concerns other people have (namely how to prevent servers from skimming all of your cards from your Coin when it's out of sight), so I may only be using this for transactions where I can keep an eye on the card. But that would kinda defeat the purpose of having it if I still have to carry the original cards with me too. I guess I'll see how it all works when it's delivered next summer.

Since this seems to be popular right now, why not? (Aside from the fact that it shows just how little I've gotten out of town? Time to change that I guess.)

States I've visited or lived in...

Red means I've just passed through, maybe seen a thing or two.

Amber means I've at least slept there and seen a few things. I have a first-hand idea of what the state is like.

Blue means I've spent a good amount of time in that state.

Green means I've spent a lot of time in that state, weeks at at time on multiple visits – or lived there.

For those who want to generate their own:

That's cool.  Mine would definitely be more extensive, with the whole driving-across-the-country-twice thing.  California and Ohio would be the only green states.  Nevada would definitely be blue, what with my various trips to Reno and Vegas for flight-sim stuff.  As an OSU alumnus, it pains me to say it, but Michigan would probably also be blue due to multiple trips to visit relatives there throughout my life.  And then, the huge swathes of red and amber stretching west to CA and south to FL.  Still need to visit new england some time--never been that way yet.

I think this is an awesome idea. In fact, I'll offer one more twist: they should have Angela Bassett play Captain T'Meni, the vulcan mother of Tuvok (from Voyager).  They probably won't do it, but we can dream, can't we?

I'm totally digging the Fallout 4 ARG. You can follow it by regularly checking out The Survivor 2299 website and the Redditors that have been busy making sense of it all (via the links below):

I liked the capital wasteland better than new vegas.  It felt better suited for a free-form exploration game, which is what I like.

So the real question bouncing around the interwebs right now is whether the above website is a Bethesda-made site or a fan-made site. Bethsoft isn't talking (of course) so I guess we'll have to wait another 6 or 16 days to find out.

I took the leap early and upgraded my iPhone to iOS 7... and so far I'm loving it. My only real complaints stem from a few apps that aren't playing nicely... but I'm sure those will be fixed soon enough.

However, THIS is something that I absolutely love. I didn't even know it needed fixing... but now that I've done it, it makes everything so much easier to read. Remember everyone: Settings > General > Accessibility > Bold Text: ON. It may not be for everyone, but I'm a very utilitarian kind of guy, so legibility is important to me. Thanks for point this out TUAW!

Probably a good idea. Especially since you can download Google Maps as a free app and just shuffle off Apple Maps to your unused apps folder. ;-)
