If there was anyone some (not me) might have expected to rain all over the Kindle Fire news regarding Amazon, it would be +John Gruber
. Instead, a nice balanced look at why Kindle Fire seems to be the first tablet that really gives people a reason not to go iPad. I'd joked on Twitter that maybe Kindle Fire is sort of the netbook to the iPad. Just as the iPad lets you do tons of stuff that you don't need a "real" computer for, maybe the Kindle Fire will let you do tons of stuff that you don't need a bigger format tablet/iPad for. Looking forward to seeing it myself -- I ordered both the Touch (I've grown to like ePaper) and the Fire. I sure hope, however, I'm not going to find that my Android apps on other devices (not that I've bought that many) won't work on the Fire. And I sure as hell wish Kindle books were non-DRM. Music went that way, but I worry we're all building up Amazon-only libraries that could all go poof down the line.
