Keep your data local, not with Big Data Brother.

DMCA exceptions are the only rule definitions that keep this horrible law from violating First Amendment protections of individual speech. EFF needs all our support on this!

I'm tempted by the new Android and Linux ports in this bundle, even though I already have a few of them on other platforms.
It's time for Humble PC & Android Bundle 12!

Get up to seven games that are playable on Windows, Mac, Linux, AND Android. Oh, and they're available DRM-free and on Steam!

Of all possible careers in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), I'm most familiar with the video games industry. I'm still going to this panel to hear different perspectives on the industry from my own.

It starts at 2pm in the LA Central Library Teen'Scape room.

Here is historical objective proof that all knowledge network markets, including and perhaps especially writing, perform better in countries without copyright monopoly grants that control publishing and inherently favor incumbents over competition. The only market players who benefit from copyright are the publisher intermediaries who use these monopoly grants to extort high profit margins, to the detriment of both readers and authors. After Germany transitioned to a form of copyright after 1840, for example, authors wrote complaints to their publishers for keeping their books' prices artificially high, which killed demand for any more high earning reissues and revised editions. Copyright effectively traded huge quantity low margin sales for small batch high margin sales and much lower profits overall. Incumbent middlemen publishers keep more of any profits extracted via monopoly grants, so that more exclusive customers pay more but authors retain less overall. Only the politically connected incumbent extortionists win in any such monopoly allocation scheme.

Even if the FCC finally starts enforcing Network Neutrality and related common carrier provisions of existing law, the Big ISP's like Comcast are just going to sue and weasel around their rules at will. If you want real competition and to take back your Internet, you'll have to start by sharing with neighbors and building it anew with them.
Comcast wants to gobble up all of your Internet. Let's stick a fork in this turkey!

Very good points throughout this post. Found via +Wil Wheaton IIRC. I hope the only lasting outcome of GamerGate is more intelligent people willing to call out misogynist and tribalist jerks on their self-serving paranoid fabrications, and more empowered diversity as a result.
