The Holiday Season is a particularly difficult time for the children we serve at Jardín de los Niños. Families experiencing homelessness and near-homelessness often do not have the money to purchase presents. As such, we rely on the generosity of our community during the holidays to ensure that our children experience the same wonder and excitement that other children enjoy during this time of the year through our "Adopt a Family" program. Learn more about how you can participate on our website!

In conjunction with our "What Did I Do Wrong?" fundraising campaign, we have launched the "Meet Our Families" Story Series. Each week we are sharing a new story of the families and children that we serve here at Jardín. Check out the first four stories in the series on our website!

"What Did I Do Wrong?"

The answer is, of course, nothing. No child ever chooses to be homeless or near-homeless. Yet, there are over 600 children who reside in Doña Ana County that are presently classified as homeless or near-homeless.

A year ago, we were worried that we might have to close the doors at Jardín de los Niños due to lack of funding. As such, we asked ourselves what we could do to show our community how essential Jardín de los Niños is in providing the tools necessary to break the vicious cycle of homelessness.

What better way to do this than through the stories of our children and families? The children pictured above look like many of the children who come to us on their first day…disheveled, frightened, hungry, and—in many instances—with only the clothes on their backs. Many of them have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect, and lack food and shelter. But that is why they have come to us—so that we can provide them and their parents with the environment and tools necessary to improve their lives.

In order to continue this important work, we need your support. While the coffers and Jardín are better, we still have a long way to go. It is our goal to raise $300,000 over the next six months to ensure that we can continue to make a difference in our children’s lives. A donation of any amount is more than welcome and greatly appreciated. Visit our GoFundMe Campaign page,, to make your contribution.

We hope that you will join us in our effort to continue to make a difference for our kids, and to assure them that they have done nothing wrong.
