Three months later, I got my Chromebook to work again... Some time in January, the charger of my Chromebook 11 stopped working.

The device can theoretically be charged by any micro USB charger, but in reality, you need a pretty powerful power brick to sustain a charge and even charge the device while running. Unfortunately, the original Chromebook 11 charger can't be bought from Google or HP anymore, so I ended up ordering one from Amazon.

That order was fulfilled from China, with shipping taking 6 weeks. And when the thing got here, I noticed that it had the original Chrome logo, but actually was a low-power charger. In other words, fake and useless. I ended up fighting a bit with the seller, but eventually got all my money back.

And I started to become a bit obsessed. I really wanted this to work, and didn't think I should throw away a perfectly functional laptop just because the power brick was broken. However, while looking for alternatives, I must have jammed a damages USB plug into the USB port, damaging the port and taking away any possibility to charge the Chromebook at all.

But did I mention I was obsessed? So I scoured EBay and found someone selling a Chromebook 11 with broken screen, but functioning charger for around $50. I won the auction, and was happy to soon turn two broken laptops in one functioning laptop.

Except, the seller forgot to send me the power adapter. And when I complained, he accidentally sent me the wrong one. All of which didn't exactly help with my obsession.

A few days ago, the correct power adapter finally arrived, and after a bit of tinkering, I was able to swap the ports of both machines, plug in the working and genuine power adapter, and finally fire up my Chromebook 11 again.

Which felt very, very satisfying.

+James Welbes and that's why people that use a computer for 16 hours a day like me would spend for a Pixel. And why people like my mother that use a computer for a couple hours a day just need the right size of Chromebook with far less regard for performance over price.

Here is Google's official announcement...

Google Cast Support for HDMI CEC
We have recently rolled out additional support for HDMI CEC features for Google Cast devices.

You can now use your TV’s remote Play and Pause buttons to control media that you cast to your TV on some applications. You can also use your remote’s Exit button to stop casting an app.

We previously launched the ability for Google Cast devices to change the TV input when you begin casting.

You need to ensure your apps use the Google Cast media namespace for controlling media playback and that the media control commands are supported by the receiver app: https://developers.google.com/cast/docs/reference/messages

Your TV needs to have HDMI CEC enabled for these features to work. Follow the instructions in our User Help Center and Support Forum: http://goo.gl/J6QBDc

Note that these features may not work with all Cast enabled apps or all TV’s.

Happy Casting!

It was actually my daughter who was napping. I usually just spend the time catching up on my news feeds and reading things I otherwise don't get to, but I enjoy it just as much.

The $170 Plex media server I first wrote about in January is here... this is a pretty big deal for Plex.

not finding any specifics on running plex server thru the $170 Seagate box. One typically has to spend a bit more for a i5 PC server or more for good NAS processing.

+Jeff Bower The device you linked appears to use the HDMI-CEC channel for transporting the IR codes, so it likely breaks that CEC device communication over the connection. I'm going to experiment more, but the HDMI-CEC analyzers and programmable IR-CEC bridges are too expensive. Ironically the simple remote that could be created (likely with Pause/Play, Mute, and volume up/down) would look like that of a Roku or Amazon Fire TV, and ideally like that of the Roku 3, which has a headphone jack to play the audio.

The other interesting aspect is that Roku and Amazon have (free) smartphone apps that control their device(s), much like my Logitech Harmony Smart (which has a smartphone component) remote system...

It's possible that they have good lunch stuff, but the baked goods are disappointing. The "Nussecke" I tried a while back had some weird creme in it that tasted like lard? Inedible. I gave it a second chance anyway, and was disappointed again. The Prezel was at least a day old and very dry. The Apfelstreusselkuchen tasted like pizza or quiche or something. Maybe they wanted to preserve energy by baking things together, but it clearly backfired. The Linzer Torte was very dry and had a hair baked in. Yum! Well, actually no. Check out Esther's bakery in Palo Alto instead if you want some authentic, good German cake & prezels.
