I have not yet written up my trip with Unlock the Past,  but check out Chris Paton's great blog to see what we got up to in St Petersburg (Steve and I were on the same bus).
In my second post on the recent Unlock the Past Cruises (www.unlockthepastcruises.com) tour of the Baltic states, I described my visit to both Berlin in Germany and Tallinn in Estonia. So far so good, but a real treat was nex...

A Photograph of the Day at the Cafe this week.  These are great little birds.
Awards at the Photography Cafe often seem to come in batches or perhaps it's just because I tend to post in batches when I am working on my travel books. The image above was taken in the The Edward Youde Aviary in Hong Kong park. These little birds (Leucopsar rothschildi) were completely unfazed ...

Part one of a family story from Stephen's family. This time involving U-boats, War Crimes and a Canadian hospital ship.  At a recent family gathering I was told in no uncertain terms that Thomas died on the Lusitania, so I thought I should write up the story.  #ww1centenary

I have just revamped my Family History site, which has been sadly neglected over the last few months/years.  I have installed Wordpress and updated my Next Generation of Site Building Family History Database.  I am aiming to make a real effort to document my Family Stories and research triumphs . . and failures as well as tracking any useful hints and sites I find along the way.

When I stand up to speak at conferences or on training days, I often open with the fact that my Ancestors come from Dorset in the south west of England. This is not entirely true, some come from Wiltshire and some from Devon, but the vast majority come from the south and west of Dorset, ...

We are all fine. The kids are excited to be going back to school on Wednesday, well Byron is as he starts secondary school and Sapha moves to year 4 at primary school, Megan however turns 13 on Wednesday so she's not looking forward to school. Joanne and I are starting to feel old now having a teenage daughter. How are you and Stephen doing?

Another from our evening in Hobart has made it to Photograph of the Day. at the Photography Cafe.  Taken as the clouds rolled over the mountain side it shows our group heading up the track to the Organ Pipes rock formation.

I live in South Somerset, England,  just off the Somerset Levels where I was brought up.  My real passions are travel, photography and family history.   I am also a long time computer specialist, having started using them in the late 1970's, both as a systems designer and programmer.
