There are 41 stars within 15 light years of our sun.  Out of those 41, only 9 of them are bright enough to see with the human eye alone.  Only 2 of the 41 (which are also 2 of the 9 bright enough to see unaided) are in the same spectral class (G) as our own sun: Alpha Centauri A, and Tau Ceti.

Current evidence seems to indicate that Tau Ceti may have five orbiting planets with two of them (Tau Ceti e and f) in the habitable zone.  However, Tau Ceti has considerably more debris (comets and asteroids) around it than our solar system, and the extra impacts from this debris on any planets is expected to have limited (or extinguished) any development of life.

Alpha Centauri A is one-half of a binary star system (Alpha Centauri AB), and there is significant debate as to whether there are any planets around either star.  The best evidence (which is still up for debate) may indicate a single earth-sized planet outside the habitable zone of Alpha Centauri B and no planets around Alpha Centauri A.

Quit dashing our hopes for finding nearby aliens!
Also, if there are at least 6 planets around Ceti Alpha we should avoid the 6th planet. I hear there is a bad dude stationed there.

A piece of the Berlin Wall was on display in Gwinnett County... Pictures were taken with an HTC One M8 (not through Glass like many of my photos)

We had a work event last Friday at a nearby park.  I took lots of pictures #throughglass -- this one was my favorite.

In 1964, Isaac Asimov visited the New York World's Fair.  He then proceeded to write an article imagining what the World's Fair of 2014 would look like.  Overall, his predictions of what life would be like in 2014 were incredibly accurate.

Take a look for yourself:

August 16, 1964. Visit to the World's Fair of 2014. By ISAAC ASIMOV. T he New York World's Fair of 1964 is dedicated to "Peace Through Understanding." Its glimpses of the world of tomorrow rule out thermonuclear warfare. And why not? If a thermonuclear war takes place, the future will not be ...

I decided to end Movember 2013 (ok, so I went 1 extra week) dressed in some costumes that went with my mustache (or beard depending on your definition).

Not exactly sure... It's in one of the stairwells at work, and my best guess based on the company and the high voltage warning is that it houses a power supply distribution module.

From Silent Knight's website, they describe themselves thusly, "Silent Knight is a leading manufacturer of fire alarm control panels, UL listed DACTs, life-safety equipment, central station receivers, and power supply distribution modules. Our IntelliKnight series of addressable fire alarm control panels have no equal."
