#Brics bank: A new paradigm for development?

Brazil, India, China and South Africa - the ''big five'' of the developing world, have agreed, in principle, to create a development bank to fund infrastructure projects. A potentially historic challenge to western-dominated institutions such as the World Bank.

So near Tiverton there's a big dam where all our water apparently comes from. It's pink, which according to the sign, makes it blend in with the scenery better.

Britain’s “dash-for-gas” strategy has been undermined just a day before chancellor George Osborne is set to place the fossil fuel at the heart of UK energy policy, as a new report finds the economy would be better off harnessing offshore wind instead.

So it looks like Apple may have just jumped the shark. Slightly better display and a rubbish photo editing app? Is that good enough? I'm gonna reserve final judgement until the iPhone 5 comes out but I think things are not looking too rosy for Apple just now.

The iPad and iPhone 5 will sell in huge numbers, but perhaps not as high as the previous iterations. Competition from the bargain basement Kindle Fire may well erode their market share to a reasonable extent.

Of course it'd be stupid to write Apple off completely right now with the resources and reputation they have but if they are unable to find compelling reasons for Apple cultists to upgrade then this could be the start of a period of decline.

What do you reckon?

Every case of overwhelming dominance ends eventually, but there will need to another paradigm shift before Apple bites it.

Microsoft is on borrowed time, even the US government has began to ditch I.E. and use Chrome. Each time their OS looks more and more like Apple, and the last thing Windows needs is for people to think that the two are direct competitors. However, their peak was along time ago. I don't even think Apple has peaked, what you are drawing attention to is more a cease of positive acceleration, they still have plenty of momentum left.

Marketing is everything really, the market of actual nerds who know a damned thing about technology on the inside is still small. Getting the mob worked up about it is way more important than doing a thorough job (c.f. Kony video!).

On your way out of Putney Bridge Station keep your eyes peeled for this lovely bookshop- crammed to the rafters with second hand and antique books of all genres. The owner has a huge warehouse with far more stock than the shop can hold so do ask if you can't find something you want- he may go and get it for you then and there.

Lovely big Victorian pub with a terrace overlooking the river and roaring fires inside in winter- beer and wine range is ok and not too pricey, food pretty average, you're here for the setting! Lots of tables but very popular, so get here early or book ahead.

Some really first rate cocktails and good deals if you get there for them. The bar is small with high tables and stools (good for milling about a group of people- bad for balancing after too many).

A traditional tea rooms, cosy despite white walls with a mix of furniture and china and really good homemade cakes. They have a range of teas but the cakes are the highlight and as it's just off the high street it makes for a quieter place to refresh yourself after some shopping than the cafes on the main strip. Incredibly friendly, hard working staff.

Excellent Italian ice cream in enormous range of flavours and more/less healthy options of frozen yoghurt and strawberry. Ideally located for you to wander past on your way to the green or the river in the summer. Fairly expensive, but such good quality and a local institution.

Pretty Victorian pub overlooking the green (sit outside in the summer, inside is cosy and lovely in the winter). Reasonably priced although basic pub food and a range of beers and ciders, service is good and staff are friendly.

This lovely Victorian theatre puts on all sorts of productions to a very high standard. The annual panto is family friendly fun and during the year there's variety for all ages. The feeling of the West End without the price tag.
