I'm not working on that anymore. I don't have enough time. But it is cool.

TONY BATES: This man is amazing!!! We need more like him, and I am glad that he will indeed keep on writing.
This is a great post to read from start to finish, but of course I have to single out what he says here about MOOCs. Hey MOOC-meisters: you should listen to what this man says. He knows of what he is speaking. So, please, listen!
quote And then there’s MOOCs. I can’t express adequately just how pissed off I am about MOOCs – not the concept, but all the hubris and nonsense that’s been talked and written about them. At a personal level, it was as if 45 years of work was for nothing. All the research and study I and many others had done on what makes for successful learning online were totally ignored, with truly disastrous consequences in terms of effective learning for the vast majority of participants who took MOOCs from the Ivy League universities. Having ignored online learning for nearly 20 years, Stanford, MIT and Harvard had to re-invent online learning in their own image to maintain their perceived superiority in all things higher educational. And the media fell for it, hook, line and sinker. This is a battle I no longer want to fight – but it needs fighting. But my reaction did make me wonder, am I just an old man resisting the future? And that has definitely left a mark.
Anyway, read the whole post - it is heartfelt and inspiring, and I wish us all such a fine 75th birthday as he has had! I know that his is well-earned!

CoreOS sounds interesting.

Major Update: btrfs, docker 0.9, add users, writable /etc, and more:
- New filesystem layout, writeable /etc/, read-only /usr/
- Docker 0.9 (with btrfs support!)
- btrfs stateful/root filesystem
- Networking configured via networkd
- CoreOS CloudInit, which enables boot time configuration

So true

I'm not entirely sure who originally said this, but it really encouraged me this morning.  :)

"Ministry is giving when you feel like keeping; praying for others when you need to be prayed for; feeding others when your own soul is hungry; living truth before others when you do not see results; hurting with others when your own hurt cannot be spoken; keeping your word even when it is not convenient.  It is being faithful when your flesh wants to run away."

TOML
But why?
Because we need a decent human-readable format that unambiguously maps to a hash table and the YAML spec is like 80 pages long and gives me rage. No, JSON doesn't count. You know why.

Yeah no, I think I'll stick with yaml. The spec is too large yes, but it's easy enough to read and write.

If you or someone you know is learning chess, and already know how the pieces move, this lesson is a great next step to learn openings and tactics.

I marked this to watch later and then ended up watching it right now anyway. :)

This is a surprisingly fun little game.  Requires basic coding knowledge, preferably of Javascript (or you can pick it up as you go.)

Introduction
I've studied software for over 32 years. If you work with or are interested in software please feel especially free to contact me.

Please feel free to add me to your circles, to introduce yourself and let me know why you circled me.

If you are new to google+ I recommend that you check out the posts in the #gplustips stream to see why it's a good idea to set up your profile and to post publicly. It is also a great resource for old-timers and I check it every so often to learn new things.

If I have circled you, please feel free to circle me back as you are comfortable. I would like it but don't necessarily expect it.

One of the things I like best about Google+ is that it makes it easy and normal to meet new and interesting people.  What is one thing you like about being a G+enius?

[Just in case it's not clear to you, I speak only for myself and not for any other person or organization.]
