Today at the festival in Gavoi we had some street food: fried panzerotti, stuffed with the famous Gavoi potatoes, porcini mushrooms and cheese. These and a glass of wine: 5 euro. They were fantastic. Great festival; Autunno in Barbagia 2014, #sardinia

Fresh pasta with a sauce of suckling pig, orange peel and toasted pine nuts from Osteria Borello in Gavoi, Sardinia. Fantastic dish from a great restaurant--and not expensive at all. We're staying across the street, at Affittacamera Sa Posada.

One third of the breakfast for two at the Affittacamera Sa Posada in Gavoi, Sardinia--all homemade pastry plus a creation of the owner's, morning "gelato". One of the best breakfasts I've ever had in 40 years of travel to Europe. All this plus fresh fruit, homemade cheeses and yogurt, eggs and salumi from their farm. Not your typical Italian breakfast for sure. http://www.saposadagavoi.com/

Casareccia pasta with bresaola and an asparagus creme, another winner from Ristorante da Remo in Monzone. The second, one of my faves, was pork tenderloin wrapped in lardo. Fantastic. All on the worker's lunch with wine, water and coffee for 12 Euro.

As served in the 1600s in Cremona, " Very Old Style Gnocchi stuffed with Sausage and baked with Poppy seeds ,Sesame and Parmesan." It was very good, but the snails! Oh, my, the snails were a triumph! Osteria La Sosta in Cremona, don't miss it.
