Myself and +Zafer Ali are attending the Turnitin user group conference in Newcastle on Monday 16th June.

In addition we have been invited to a pre-meeting focus group together with the Turnitin executive team.

Before we attend this, are there any burning questions about Turnitin and its functionality that you would like answers to?

Feel free to comment below... We will do our best to get the main salient points heard in the focus group.

The only caveat is, Turnitin have specifically asked for no questions on  expected dates for upcoming features...

Turnitin is currently experiencing a global issue with Turnitin submission. Students may not be able to submit to Turnitin at this time.

The Turnitin engineers are working on this issue. I will keep you updated.

Hi Folks,  Our Turnitin training courses for April 2014... please feel free to disseminate to any interested colleagues :)

We have 2 "Introduction to Turnitin" sessions on the 9th April and 11th April 2014. These sessions cover the basics, including assignment set up, submission and interpreting the Originality Report.

We also have 2 sessions entitled "e-assessment with GradeMark". In these sessions we cover the main components of online marking and feedback. This includes Quickmark sets, general and audio feedback as well as Rubrics. These sessions take place on the 16th and 17th of April 2014

If you would like to attend any of these workshops then please utilise our Learning management system(LMS) to book a place.

Click here for the LMS, (You will need to be logged into MUSE):  https://lms.shef.ac.uk/index.php

Click on the "learning technologies" category at the top left, the relevant training courses will then be displayed.

Click on "more info" to display information on where and when the training sessions are taking place. Click "enroll now" to enroll on a particular course date/time.

Further to this, it does seem to be operational now...however, will wait and see..would treat it as "at risk" still.

Turnitin have now released the  iPad app v.1.2.1

This should be fully compatible with iOS7. Although I would still be tempted to delete the previous version and then install new!

Get Turnitin on the App Store. See screenshots and ratings, and read customer reviews.

At this present time the Turnitin iPad app is for staff use only. There is no facility for students to upload their own work through this device. They will have to use the desktop (or laptop) version for this. Normally this is through a  MOLE module.  The idea behind the app at present, is to allow Staff to mark and return feedback on assignments.

The Turnitin service will be unavailable during a scheduled maintenance period on Saturday, July 26th, 2014, from 5pm-5am. Turnitin state that they will be "making significant upgrades to improve capacity and scalability as our service utilization grows. This maintenance will affect Turnitin and TurnitinUK users."

Turnitin now allows students to submit from Google Drive and Dropbox.

I have written up some advice on this here:
http://www.shef.ac.uk/polopoly_fs/1.321913!/file/TurnitinCloudSubmit.pdf

Important to note that if students want to submit from Dropbox, there are some risks involved... i.e.  Dropbox was not intended for use on shared pcs (and not managed desktop)... therefore the dropbox folder is deleted when you log out and you have to re-link it every time you log back on.

http://turnitin.com/en_us/features/whats-new#cloud-submit

Be interesting to see  whether students actually use google drive/docs much for their assignments...
