The Batavia Public Library Monday withdrew its controversial request for $100,000 from the city of Batavia for fixing and remodeling an outdoor staircase at the library. "The best path forward is for the library to withdraw that request and work with you the council and come up with a better grant that is better suited to both your needs and ours," library President Doug Sullivan said.

Jim Martin, St. Charles' longest-serving alderman, stepped down from the city council for the final time Monday night as a new city council took the oath of office. Martin served 36 years on the council, and residents lined up to send him off.
