I was tuned in... was really looking forward to it!

Today’s launch of the DSCOVR mission is scrubbed due to loss of the Air Force’s Eastern Range radar, which is required for launch.  Earliest next opportunity is tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 9th at 6:07pm ET.

Day 4 - ‪#‎gratitude‬ for a number of things today - For a few quiet hours this afternoon to gather my thoughts. For our dog Luke, who is suffering from a very painful looking irritated nose - but that handles it by being even more gentle and sweet as we try to help him. For all the amazing resources and opportunities that surround me every day.

#gratitude Days 1, 2 and 3
So, it was about a year ago that I thought of trying to post #gratitude every day for a year. My lovely wife day moore joined me in the challenge. Here we are about a year later - and I fell well off the wagon - stopping after a few months, and feeling overtaxed by the events of every day at work. But Day continued on, making it happen and living it through. So Day, I am grateful for you, and your tenacity.

Love you so.

And so it goes...

#grateful

day 1 - for time with family over the holidays.... it was wonderful
day 2 - for a safe (but long) journey home
day 3 - for all days with day

About ten years ago, Day and I were taken by our good friends to the grave of Rainer Maria Rilke, in Raron, Switzerland, not far from Visp.

We celebrated Rilke's life and writings with a bottle of red wine - and we laughed, and hugged, and looked up to the stars that covered the wedge of Valais sky that evening.

I am grateful for the memory - that time under those stars in that place with those friends.

I am in love with the romance and breadth of the journey that brought me to that spot that night - from reading a used book store copy of Letters to a Young Poet as a seventeen year old kid in a small upstate New York town, to years later drinking a Gamay at the grave of the author in the small church yard cemetery - wedged between the peaks of the Alps, in the company of friends, with the love of my life holding my hand.

So grateful for memories that are wide in the space they occupy, but deeply connected to my soul.

Buddha in Glory

Center of all centers, core of cores,
almond self-enclosed, and growing sweet--
all this universe, to the furthest stars
all beyond them, is your flesh, your fruit.

Now you feel how nothing clings to you;
your vast shell reaches into endless space,
and there the rich, thick fluids rise and flow.
Illuminated in your infinite peace,

a billion stars go spinning through the night,
blazing high above your head.
But in you is the presence that
will be, when all the stars are dead.

Today is March 8th, my dad's 75th birthday.

I am so very grateful for the father I have, for his love and for his support through my life.

He has done so much for his family, for all of his children - and for the extended family with whom we are all so close.

He worked (and works) tirelessly - and never voiced anything resembling a complaint - about anything.

He served our country for 22 years in the US Navy.

He laughs. He plays the harmonica.

He loves art, and music, and shared that love with us as kids. We spent more Sundays in museums and theaters than anyone else I know.

He is a lifetime learner - he earned his PhD in his 60's.

He is a role model for me in my life, and I am so very grateful to call him dad.

Happy Birthday Dad. Love you so much.

JAF

‪#‎Gratitude day 39 - amazing beauty in a cold ocean. Spent about a half-hour today shooting some of the birds foraging in the ice floating just off shore. One particular gull really stayed close to me...
