Great fun for kids and families at PAMM

The other day I was doing a video shoot for Unite4Good talking about Life Is Art for their website (a free service they offer). One of the questions was this, “What resources does your organization need in order to fulfill its mission (i.e. Volunteers, Donations etc.)?”

I answered, “Fun.” Needless to say, the interviewer looked at me funny, but it is true. “We need people to have fun,” I reiterated. Unlike many organizations, we almost never ask for donations. We hardly ever ask for volunteers (trying to get better on that). We do not bother you to vote for us 1000 times per day. We do not have boring fundraisers with rubber chicken and terrible cover bands. But, we do ask for your help in our mission, we ask is that you have fun.

Our mission is to expose the awesome art of Miami and support the community. We do so by creating events for people to attend. YOU can help us out. You CAN help the Miami art scene and community. All you have to do is come to our events and have some fun! That's it. Just come and have fun. Enjoy the art, music and ambiance. Meet new people, discover new artists and new locations. Yes, most events have a small ticket price, but we always strive to give good value for your money.

So, that being said, come have some fun with us! I invite you join us tomorrow at Burger and Beer Joint South Beach for our next show! We are featuring three amazing south Florida based artists, an awesome local charity, and a great local DJ. Plus, you will receive a welcome drink and some tasty tastings. Tickets are only $10 when you RSVP at with code “LIA”. Hope to see you there! Thank you!!!

From: Life Is Art

Dear Artists, Arts Professionals and Art Lovers,

You know we work very hard to support our South Florida artists. It is of the utmost importance to a mature city to have a thriving artist community. I hope you will give me just a few minutes of your time to discuss a very important issue. For an artist, an injury or serious illness could be devastating and ruin their entire career. I know you do not want to hear about it, but the Affordable Care Act (also called Obamacare) is coming.

If you are self-employed, as many artists are, you are probably uninsured. Even if you are self-insured, this information is for you. If you are an arts non-profit, this information is for you. (If you are safely working for a corporation with insurance, this is probably not for you, but you are still welcome.) Seriously, this is super important. Please listen carefully to this information. As of January 2014, if you do not have insurance, you could be subject to fines. Now, not having insurance is bad enough, but being fined and not having insurance is worse. That is the bad news.

The good news is, there is a very good chance you could get very inexpensive insurance. This is real. I do not want to go into all the details in an email, but subsidies are available and insurance companies are bringing costs down. I know that there has been a lot of confusing information in the news media and political ads. Please come to our Arts and the Affordable Care Act seminar on November 18th at HistoryMiami to learn all of the details. Remember that knowledge is power and our goal is to empower artists to be able to follow their passion and do what they love.

We have worked very hard to put this all together for you. I really hope you will take advantage of it. We have put together a panel of four experts to talk about your options. We have free parking. We have refreshments for after the seminar is over. In my opinion, this is the most important issue facing artists and organizations right now. That is why we really busted our humps to make this a great event for you. Again, I hope you will take advantage of it.

Please note, this is a non-political event. We are neither for nor against the ACA, we are just providing information so that you can be aware of the situation.

We ask that you please share this information with your colleagues. This seminar is targeted at artists and arts organizations, but everyone is welcome.

If you decide not to attend, please let me know why. Your feedback on this would be helpful.

Have you seen this video by Jimmy Kimmel asking people if they prefer Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act?
Six of One - Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act
Whether you support the ACA or not (I am not saying that I do or not), what is most upsetting is the deliberate misleading of the American people. Watch the video and see what you think.
