I woke up in Trento. 156 km later, I'm in the rather stunning Venice. Quite a day.

Back in Italy, pass collecting. It's been a very long haul up from Lake Como and the Swiss lower valleys but satisfying.

Arrivederci Italia, pozdravi Slovenja! Western Europe has been fun, but there's still something to crossing an ex-Communist border silently at night...

The view from Rialto bridge in Venice on my last night here. I say it's still pretty.

The Stelvio pass descent, oh my word. I woke up on the glacier at 3200m, offroaded down to the road at 2800m, then had an unbroken road downhill to 950m. Total distance of unbroken downhill, 27km for 2250m of altitude at maximum off road speed 33kph, on road 64kph. Oh, and around 50 hairpin turns on the road. Wow.

Just spent the night camping on the glacier above the Stelvio pass, it's a beautiful view.

On the benefits of spending the night on the mountainside...
(Gandegghütte, Switzerland, just above Zermatt and below the Klein Matterhorn and related glaciers) This was halfway up the 4200 meter Breithorn climb.

A lovely entrance elevator, although the signage is frankly poor. Set against that, the host was excellent (lovely coat) and the wildlife was amazing. A lovely night in with pretty much any member of the team is available on request.

It's an excellent family run deli. Lots if nice home made stuff and good quality products on sale, and definitely the best sandwiches near Seven Dials.

This pub is a real old style country pub, and has running for hundreds of years. There's a big main bar full of relatively friendly locals, and a pool room and garden just adjacent to the bar. The customers are country boys in the main, and are a lot more relaxed than the average London venue. There tends to be a lot of chat at the bar as a result, and it's a really nice place to just relax with a reasonably priced beer. There aren't so many craft ales, but what is served is served through clean pipes and with a good measure. The bar manager is also relaxed enough that it's no problem to eat a takeaway at the bar, and the general atmosphere is the best in Soham.

One of the nicest gelatarias I've been to in Italy. It doesn't look that much from the outside, but inside the flavours are varied and have beautifully fresh and varied ingredients. All of the flavours I had were lovely, but my personal tip is the to die for ricotta, walnut and honey gelato. They also sell cakes and such, but I haven't tried them.

The Red Cow is a chain pub on the edge of Leicester with apparent pretentions of being a gastropub. The meals are around £6.50-£10, and are pretty standard microwave pub food. It's not exactly great, but it's reasonably competent in an unexciting way. I had the beefburger, and it contained a large amount of meat that was unfortunately fairly fatty. The barman was however friendly, and the general atmosphere was good to get work done in but not exactly chatty. I'd recommend it for food as fuel and a place to meet just next to the motorway, but it's nothing more impressive than that.

Extremely expensive, but you get what you pay for. It's a beautiful view across the bay, and the food is some of the best in Vila. You won't get kava, but you will get dishes from all over Oceania expertly made. Oh, and a nice little pool.
